Received passport back...but not my wife's!!!
Friends -
Wife and I sent our passports for H4 & H1 revalidations respectively.
Received back a package with both our passports - my passport has the visa, but they asked for the I-797 for my wife - apparently they have misplaced it!
Anyone...
The law is apparently pretty clear on one thing ... the 6 year cap applies to a continuous period of time spent in H1, H4 or L status, or *any combination of these*. So if are finishing 6 years on H1, you CANNOT go into H4...you will have to leave the country for a year and come back on H1 or H4...
No, there is no way to capture "vacation" periods.
You can only get back long absences on overseas work-related deputations (assignments that are "different" from your usual duties), maternity leave etc...
As always, check with your lawyer. I got back a fair amount of time but none of the...
Hmmmm.....
Interesting situation.
The Mumbai consulate website (http://www.visa-services.com) does mention that you need to be resident in their jurisdictional area, or you need to have obtained your last US visa from there. Since the first is not true, is the 2nd case applicable?
As...
I did capture time outside!!!
I was *always* on employment...on *full* pay. Did long term implementations/projects overseas. So there was NO disruption to employment. And still got extension - all of 15 months! :-)
Of course, there was an RFE. If you can show with supporting letters etc...
Thanks Jaxen!!
Thanks much, Jaxen.
From your answer, I assume that it is safe to send the passport for revalidation even after my current visa expires, sicne the new I-94 (till the later date) is now the binding one.
Unfortunately my plans being still somewhat fluid, I would like to pose...

Have received an H1 extension and my current visa expires Oct 1, 2002. My new I-797 authorizes stay till Jan 2004.
I may have to travel overseas on business and lets say I return on 26th/27th Sept 2002.
a) Is it mandatory to send in the passport so that it reaches St. Louis...

I called the Mumbai consulate just 2 days ago on the visa info number. Apparently my wife will need to get her H4 stamping done either at the same time or after I get my H1 stamp. Have also read elsewhere on this forum that such is the case at other places too. So you might not want to...
Drop box
I believe that if you already have had a visa (say H1) stamped from the same consulate (say Mumbai) then you can go for the drop box.... In fact, that apparently is the only way to get it done! Does anyone have any experience on this??
Please do post back your experiences at Mumbai...

I am planning on getting a visa stamping done for my H1 extension at the Mumbai consulate (India). Would appreciate any experiences anybody might have had recently there.
Also -
a) Can I go directly for the drop box option...since I have an H1 visa stamped already?
b) My...
Thanks Vicky_m
Thanks a lot for the list and the pointers. Very useful.
rb2002 - You do have sufficient time. Seems like extensions are taking around 2 months (hearsay though). But if you want to be really sure then you might want to consider Premium processing for the extension. Mine...
Need help on validation
Friends -
Got my H1 extension approval recently from INS, CA. Want your expert help on the following please -
a) Where do I need to send it for the visa stamp - St. Louis or Washington? Is one better over the other?
b) What forms/other materials do I need to...

Firstly, vacation time will never be eligible for recapture. I just got 15 months recaptured, but all of that was owing to LONG TERM overseas stays - either on projects to foreign clients or deputation to foreign subsidiaries/companies. In fact, I got an RFE when I filed the H1...
