Very Confused with the "Other Name Used"

I would not worry about the previous names used issue. I think this mangling of foreign names is pretty common and IOs are used to it. It is the rule, not the exception!

my interview experience at San Jose office

Update: finally got my oath letter today! IO at interview said he would send it before the end of the week, but it look 3 weeks... oh well, glad to have it, finally!! In 16 days I should be a citizen. Coincidentally, I just made an Infopass appt this morning because I started getting...

    Name Change in San Jose

I concur. I answered "yes" on Q1c on my N-400 (just to correct the name spelling on my GC), but the IO at San Jose crossed it out and said they don't have the jurisdiction to do name changes there. If you're dealing with San Jose, your naturalization certificate will have the name you put...

How to Report "Adjourned in Contemplation of Dismissal (ACD)" case on N-400 Form?

I should clarify what I meant by that. At the end of your interview, the IO goes over amendments (changes) that he/she made to your application. The IO counts them up and reads them off to you. You then sign off on those changes. None of my 9 amendments included Q15-21 on Part 10. But the...

    N-400 employment history

Are you applying based on the 5-year rule or the 3-year marriage rule? If you are applying based on the 5-year rule, then any job that you finished before you got your GC does not matter -- it will be outside of the past 5 years, and you only need to report jobs within the past 5 years. So, in...

    Selection Service Letter

Oops, answered my own question: http://www.immihelp.com/immigration/register-selective-service.html

    Selection Service Letter

Does someone have a reference that specifically says H1-B visas are exempt from Selective Service registration? According to the SSS page, H1-B may fall under the "Lawful non-immigrants on visas" category and be exempt, but I'm not sure, see: http://www.sss.gov/FSwho.htm Specifically this...

    N-400 employment history

Yes, you should list all your jobs in the 5 years prior to the date you are putting on your application, even part-time jobs. If you have a paper trail (i.e. tax documents like a W-2) for a job, you should DEFINITELY list it. I did not have any part-time jobs, but I listed time periods when I...

    Selection Service Letter

I would recommend getting your Selective Service sorted out BEFORE you file the N-400. The N-400 specifically asks you for your Selective Service registration number, or an explanation of why you did not register. At my interview, the IO was very interested in my Selective Service status...

Definition of "detained" in Question 16 of N400 form.

Ah, yes. This is the key point to me. Is this possibility real? Can the USCIS look up traffic stops, and do they? So, the opinions in this thread boil down to two main ones: DO NOT report (as detention) traffic stops with only verbal warnings, questioning by police, and other such...

my interview experience at San Jose office

Thanks wong561hb! Based on my experience, I have posted in several threads (like ones I started earlier when preparing my application), trying to elaborate some things I learned from the interview. Here are my relevant posts in case anyone is interested... Regarding traffic tickets...

Traffic tickets and naturalization (threads merged)

my own experience OK, here is my record of offenses: - 1 speeding ticket (paid, lost all records of it, don't even know what city it was in) - 1 written warning - several verbal warnings - 1 arrest (see http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=292133) - 2 parking tickets - 1 time...

    name discrepancy

my own name fixing experience I agree with SunnyJ. Also, San Jose doesn't do name changes, either. I am in the same situation as volt. My story is basically that my name was translated from another language in two different ways -- they are all the same names, just under different...

How to Report "Adjourned in Contemplation of Dismissal (ACD)" case on N-400 Form?

follow-up after interview Hi all... Well, finally had the interview where this arrest of mine has been discussed. I wish I could say it gave me insight into how to answer Questions 15-21, but it hasn't. The IO repeatedly asked me why I answered "yes" or "no" to individual questions, and I...

Definition of "detained" in Question 16 of N400 form.

follow-up after interview Hi all... Just got out of my interview, which I describe in ranting detail here: http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=301821 At the interview, I specifically asked the IO whether getting pulled over for a traffic violation counted as detention. The IO...

    Q1 (JAN-MAR) 2009 N400 Filers Tracker

Oh yeah and I don't know if my arrest record delayed this process (I have a single arrest, case sealed and record cleared), but here is a thread I started discussing my single flaw on the application, here: http://forums.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=292133
