Marco2009, you're wrong on both accounts. USCIS says there are benefit differences and for that reason citizens should notify SSA. It's not clear though how to do that and whether there's somebody else to notify (IRS?)
I really appreciate your elaborate response, elcupacabras. It does help a lot. I'm completely new to the process but it does look like I will be doing it myself too. It kind of disappoint me that it takes 6-8 months and even in your case it only could be shrinked by 1-1.5 months at the most...
How long (Min/Max) does it take currently from a moment the petition is filed by US Citizen until the moment a fiancee gets K1 visa? Thanks in advance.
What is the exact date when the started auto-registering?
Also, would that be a problem that I won't bring the proof that I was auto-registered? Would they automatically assume that I was autoregistered looking at my GC and finding out the exact date it was issued?
I was really hoping you'd say I don't need a lawyer since I don't have much time left to find one.
To previous question, I'm located in Portland. How is that relevant though? Do these kind of decisions depend on the location?
Meaning what? I was 25 when I got GC... so I had 1 year (well, almost one year) to get registered. Is there some kind of "grace period" here? I heard I had to register withing a month after GC. So by saying you'll be fine do you mean I don't have to register or I won't get in trouble with IO...
I know I'm asking for trouble with this, but I had no idea I had to register for Selective Services when I gor my GC. I was 25 and my employer's lawyers doing it for me never even mentioned anything about SSS. Of course, I'm too old to register now, but having my citizenship interview soon, what...
Not that I'm worried too much about my past criminal history (it was actually misdemeanor and was all cleared up after winning an appeal and dismissed case) but I'd really like to know if it's generally recommended to go to an inteview with an immigration attroney in this case... For example...
I got an invite for second fingerprining (last one was less than 2 years ago and USCIS says they're expired). Funny thing is that it expired while FBI was doing namecheck, so it's totally their fault. They actually told me over the phone before that I passed background check and should expect...
I can recall two deadlines that were floating around here regarding namecheck process, but I need specific links (preferrably on government sites) on them to file with my letter to congressmen:
1. 180 days for FBI namecheck process (at least there used to be a law of some sort people were...
I was talking with USCIS on the phone and the guy said "BTW, you've been put in the queue for an interview". On my questions he didn't want to say much and was kind of rude but said that it means I will get a note within 90 days about the naturalization interview. I've been in "namecheck stage"...
What options does J1 holder who overstayed in US for couple of years have?
1. Can he return to a home country without being tracked down by CIS?
2. Can he enroll into university and get F1 visa legally? Granted, in that case he'd still have to go to a foreign country but if #1 is true, that...
I moved to another county in the same state (California) and would like to move my court case to it instead. I don't have an attorney but wondering if that's even possible just by asking the court clerk (or judge) to do it... This is divorce case involving some immigration issues too. Ex husband...
I guess it doesn't hurt to ask again - Any pointers to this Freedom of Information and Privacy Act Request with instructions?
Also, could anybody advise how I can "notify" USCIS and FBI that my misdemeanor arrest (not conviction) reported in N400 was already cleared up? I guess that's...
The crime I was arrested for is misdemeanor but quite recent, althouth the case was dismissed later (it's just there was no opportunity to tell USCIS or FBI about that yet...)
What is this - "FOIPA Filed - March 8th, 2008" ?
And what do you mean by interview letter? I didn't even receive...
I had criminal charges listed in my N-400 (arrest on misdemeanor). Submitted in August 2006 and FP in Sep 2006. Still waiting for a response. USCIS says they haven't heard from FBI on namecheck yet. Is this normal - more than 1.5 years in FBI namecheck? What to expect with misdeameanor arrest...
