Hi all,
I noticed too late that my 18-year old daughter may need a fresh OCI sticker on her recently issued new US passport. I have just one month before leaving for India. I am thinking of two options, namely, apply for a visitor visa for her (can get it relatively quickly), or just take a...
I had become USC in 2007. I was intending to apply for OCI right away but kept postponing it. Then in mid-2010 I learnt that it was necessary to get surrender certificate even for getting a visa, forget OCI. So, I scrambled to apply for the certificate. This is despite the fact that I had...
I agree, the information on what to put in the package for getting the OCI sticker on your US passport is very contradictory. Apart from the return postage confusion (self-addressed stamped envelope vs $20 money order), there is ambiguity about the cancelled Indian passport / renunciation...
The problem is, visas are also expensive. They charged me 80 dollars for a 6 months single-entry visa last year. I imagine multiple entry visas or visas of longer duration cost considerably more. Make two or three trips in 5-6 years using visas, and you have basically spent the equivalent of the...
Thanks a lot, Wivnmgm, Huracan. After I posted my question I did a search of the forum and found your messages, so I got my answer. We applied on Aug 24 (Friday) at our town hall, where the clerk was most accommodating (probably because we were soon to be town voters:-))
We will see whether...
My wife and I were naturalized last week, and as per the Child Citizenship Act of 2001 my daughter became a citizen automatically. Now it is time to apply for passports. But I am not sure how we can all apply at the same time, since my daughter's application will need my wife's and my...
I believe all you need to do is return your Indian passport to the nearest Indian consulate. If you ever got a new Indian passport in the US, there should be an entry in one of the back pages saying "warning: return this passport promptly if you acquire any other citizenship..."
I am told you...

My Boston interview experience
My wife and I had different interview times, I going first. My interview went off very well. Most of the questions were focused on my N-400 answers. She asked about my encounters with the police and I mentioned my traffic tickets. She asked if I had paid them off...
You could get an appointment even for the next day if you want. I selected an appointment time (last month) based on my work schedule. The infopass website (https://infopass.uscis.gov/info_en.php) will give you a choice of dates.

Got the interview letter
Interview is on June 12. I was starting to get concerned when later-applying folks I know had gotten their interview calls already, and my case wasn't even on the online case status search.

By the way I am not able to look up my case on line using the ESC*<number> that is noted as the "application number" on the fingerprint notice. It says "Case Retrieval Failed"...
About time someone pointed this out
In general I agree with your sentiment. But the fact is that not everyone is interested in acquiring US citizenship out of love for the country. In fact when I came to this country (from India) I wasn't fleeing an oppressive setup or even grinding poverty. I...
