As far as I know H1 / AP will become void once GC is approved. You have to get your passport stamped before leaving.
The case is different if you are already outside US when your GC is approved.

As far as I know the case number is dependent on the service center and not the applicants country. And for VSC it has always been EAC. I guess you might have got the A - Number (Alien number ). That is the INS reference number issued for all non-US ctizens entering into US...

you got to talk to an IIO and give your Last Name, First Name and Date of Birth, they will let you know the case number if it was entered into the system or else you got to wait till it gets into INS system.

Hopefully you should be receiving in another couple of weeks.
I also did not receive the receipt yet. Just confirmed over the phone that my case has been entered into the INS System.
If you want you can try to call to check and get your EAC number.
Note: INS is closed today.

Spoke to IIO by phone
I spoke to IIO, gave my firstname, last name and DOB, she checked the system and said that they just entered my case into the system. So i took the EAC number from her. The receipt is on its way.
So looks like VSC is entering I-485\'s with MailDate => Sept 4 th 2001...
