I just came back from India 4 days ago using AP. My port of entry was DC as well. I was not asked a single question at the secondary inspection. All that happened was, the officer stamped the AP and I-94 and gave it back to me.

Derivative can renew EAD without primary applicant renewing. USCIS specifies that it better be applied within 4 months to the expiry of the current EAD. For paper filing, you need, 2 current pictures, copy of I-485 receipt, Copy of current EAD and check for $340.

I just received a card production email from CRIS on my EAD renewal. I do not know if it is a 2 year one yet as I have not received the card. I beleive it is as the approval was on July 11 and I'm from the indian retrogressed EB-3.
