OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

I completely forgot about this thread. It's been almost 9 years since I posted it. But just to give everyone an update, I've finally gotten my citizenship half a year ago. @Anonymous1234, I really don't know the details of your situation. The main point of my original post was that you can...

    We can certainly hope so.

    Worried and Confused!

I believe I was only filing 1040, but at the same time I was a student in the U.S. for almost 5 years at the time, which meant for tax purposes I was considered a resident. Also - INS and IRS used to be separate, but that changed, with a memo back in the 90's. They can communicate between...

    Worried and Confused!

Pay your taxes. I was in a similar situation a few years ago when on F1 visa. INS never noticed, despite me having worked off campus for years. Not paying your taxes, on the other hand, will definitely lead to problems with IRS, and that always means trouble later on. More info here...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

Thanks for your "concern" (pun intended), but there are only three reasons that are grounds for GC revocation: 1. A serious crime. 2. Abandonment. 3. Fraud on Green Card application. I am a law abiding citizen - so point 1 is out of the question. I love this country and have been staying here...

    I am free finally

Welcome to the club - got the exact same e-mail today. I guess they finally got off their fat government-worker asses over at the Service Center (mine was the eternally backed-up Texas). Damn it feels good to be free!

    WoooHooo!!!

Totally unexpected. I filed for employment based Green Card (EB2) this August 2008. The website said they are still reviewing cases from August 2007 (Texas Service Center). I figured it would be easily another year before I get my Green Card if at all. And out of the blue I got an email...

What's Going on With Processing Dates?

No - I meant July 2008, I just filed a few months back... INS is just plain stupid - they could charge 10,000 for premium processing, and thousands of people would be more than glad to pay. No wonder this country is going down the toilet...

What's Going on With Processing Dates?

What's Going on With Processing Dates? Those suckers don't seem to be moving. Since I filed my I140/I485 (July 2008), case status for I-140 didn't advance by even 1 week. What gives? Does that mean that we'll be going from usual 1 year processing time for those cases to something more...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

Just to give everybody an update (3 years after I made the original post :) ). I got my OPT no problem, followed by H1-B (through consular processing going back to my country). Currently waiting for my Green Card approval (filed concurrent I-140/1-485 a while back). So far so good - hope...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

hi - yes I got OPT without any problems, and will be applying for h1b this year. I really don't know why your case would be delayed. I did find out about Immigration Law section 245(k), which pretty much states, that as long as you re-enter the country, your previous illegal time doesn't...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

labordrags - thanks for positive comments. At the same time, I doubt INS would even think twice before deporting me. I've been working illegaly for a long time, and according to F1 rules - that is the most serious breach of status possible. The only reason I'm still here is because they never...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

Thanks. I'll be sure to let you guys know how it went. Also student81 - you have to apply for OPT before you complete your degree (during your last semester), otherwise you risk missing the deadline. LucyMO, what do you think I should do as far as getting my H1 next year? I was told that...

OPT Question (working illegaly for years)

Hi: I am new to the forum - seems like a lot of people really know what they're talking about here. I've been on F-1 status for a long time (over 9 years) - I got my B.S., and will be getting my Masters Degree this December. Now here's my situation. I was advised by a friend of mine to...
