i did it too. i showed my flight ticket and they took my finger print earlier. My cousin totally missed the finger print date and went 2 weeks later and they took his finger prits too.

in interview - they test all three (reading, writing, spoken) skills. I had my interview last Fri. the officer gave me 10 question print out and asked me to read loud all questions and verbally answer them. at the end asked me to write one full simple sentence.
