My uncle just recently came from China and was sponsored by his sister via the I-485 form, so he is planning on becoming a permanent resident. He wants to go to Canada for a week (flying from Boston), so is just having his Chinese passport and greencard good enough?

We're not applying for AP, we're applying for re-entry permit, which allows them to stay abroad for over a year and still retain permanent resident status.

Well, on their US Visa it says: "Upon endorsement, serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent recidence for one year."All I know that is they entered as permanent residents and I can't find any "class of admission" code for that.

So the I-131 form is wrong about the showing of the ear in the pictures? Also, on the I-131, Part 1 #3, it says "Class of admission," what do I put in that box?

what type of pictures do we need for the reentry permit? the I-131 form says that the person must show an ear but I thought I saw somewhere on uscis.gov that it just needs to be a frontal picture.

The thing is that the embassy in China told my uncle that the greencard can take up to 6 weeks to arrive, they arrived here on the 22nd, and the 14th is only about 3 weeks away from the 22nd. So we're worried that the greencard may not get here in time.

Oh, k, thanks. But I thought a re-entry permit was only required if you stayed 1-2 years abroad? ANd what if we send the greencard and it gets lost in the mail?
