re:
The immigration officer at seattle told me that above 6 months expect questions, and he said that apply for REP. However i said that well the form doesnt say so. He said expect questions then.
I will definitely have a letter regarding the assignment. Also i am making another trip mid...
re:
ok, I am officially extended to stay in India temporarily for another 6 months, that would mean a total absence of 12 months - this is an assignment for me to work from my india office paid in US. Now i had a trip in april and i have another trip coming up to US in June and i return back...
re:
Thanks. I didnt know that! Do you guys feel that i should make a trip before 6 months and apply for the REP. My assignment got extended and i am now scheduled to be back in Jan, so an absence of 10 months .. actually i made a trip back in April.
My company is saying that below 1 year you...
re:
I think one of the requirements to file for a N470 is that you should not have made any trips in the 1 year before you apply for that. In my case i had made one short trip. Is that not correct?

The immigration officer was cool. Plus i was really coming back (even though just for 2 weeks) after being out of the country for 8 weeks or so. What he said was that if you plan on being out of business, file for REP, it was a honest suggestion. He thought that i am actually...
re:
I just talked with my lawyer and she said nothing to worry. I have sufficient intent (employment, taxes, bank a/c's etc) to prove my intent. However i will come back to US before 6 months now and apply for REP if i intend to stay longer/my assignment gets extended,.
re:
Thanks for the response. However dont i have strong ties to the US considering i am employed with a US company even though i am using a friends address etc? I am very much a US resident, since i will come back and i still use my US phone for all calls etc in India, invest monthly for...
Guys
I ran into a situation i wasnt prepared for and need your advise.
Background - I am a GC holder, received GC in July 2006 and have spent short trips (1-2) weeks for work after that in India. My longest trip was in August 2007 for 3 months and that was also for work, working out of our...
re:
Thanks for the response. so my baby will just enter without a visa right and GC will come later on...
however - will the airlines let me book tickets for him/her if he does not have a visa and will they let the child board the flight?
re:
Guys .. i am a little confused by my lawyer. she told me that my child if born abroad will not get GC at port of entry.. i did some more research and found something that confused me more on murthy.com
Children born abroad after the principal's adjustment date are also entitled to the...
we are planning to be in india for 2 years and are gc holders. if during the time, we have a kid born in india, what will his status be on our return to the US? we will be re-entering via re-entry permit and we will be india since my company wants me to work from india for 2 years.
i have...
Guys
I had another thread but looking at some of the responsed, i thought of opening this since i think it will be beneficial to all. I have general questions about the Reentry permit. I am trying to understand whether the REP assures of maintaining their GC or not?
Does having the REP...
re:
Thanks Jackolantern. If our Indian subsidiary doesnt work out and i need to join a company in India for employment (just in case) since i want to be in India for 2 years, my REP will still get me back to US right? I will continue to file as US Resident etc.
I need to leave the country .. the question is whether i will get an approved N470 or not? However in any case i will apply for REP and then only leave. I assume that is safe enough. I cant control whether the time spent outside will be considered for citizenship or not.
Please comment if you...
re:
OK I am a little concerned now...
Lets say i go to India to take care of my parents and am there in India for 2 years. I have a valid REP and work in India for a differenrt company. My intention is to come back and i file taxes as a resident.
Will i have an issue or be denied re-entry ?
re:
do you mean to say .. that there is no guarantee of re-entry with a REP. I mean you have to maintain residence in the US even if you have a REP. Say for e,g if i decided to go to india, work there for an indian company and then try to come back, would i be denied entry if i hade a REP?
re
The person in the post you mentioned was in russia for a different company and he actually established residence in another country... i am not trying to question .. but trying to be optimistic
