no i did not. Because of the gap between my OPT and H1B, my change of status was denied .. there is about a month and a half that I would be out of status... so they sent instructions that I have to go to my country to get the h1B at the US consulate.

I think you will be fine since under your F1 you are granted a 60 day grace period after OPT runs out, and since yours ends up on 31st August you will be able to stay in the country until H1 becomes valid. Important, you cannot work or be under payroll during that period of time...

I am not sure but I think once your visa gets approved and if you are not under OPT or any other related status you will have to leave the country... i think you will be out of status when the process is finished... you should check with a lawyer though...
