Thanks GCbigJoke / manwithnoname. I've tried to document my experience with the hope that some folks in a similair situation like mine can make better and informed decisions on their visa appointments. Most of us already have our hands full with daily issues, these additional factors only add to...
I experienced the same thing late last year. My I-797 which was issued in 2 months the previous year (texas center) was sent to the California center this time. After my attorney enquired we were told that it was undergoing name check and hence the delay. It was finally approved after 4.5...
Show them the new extended I-797. If all goes well, you should get the 3 year visa. But take the current I-797 along just incase you are asked for it.
Good luck,
Jawad
Visa Finally Issued!
UPDATE:
I got a call from some lady at the US Consulate this morning around 8:00am. She said my visa had been issued and I should mail my passport to her attention at the Consulate so she could have the visa stamped on it. Finally after 15 weeks!
She also said no...
Atyagi, sorry for the late reply, I had not checked this thread for a few days. My H1-B visa stamping experience was not a very positive one. I have the whole incident documented under another thread, please visit the name check survivor link in my signature.
Incidently, I got a call from the...
I just filed for my AOS, so I have as yet to reach the AOS name check. But 2 years back whilst renewing my H1-B visa in Johannesburg, South Africa, I had to wait for a month, pending name check clearance. Last year I had no issue and got the visa the same day. This year my I-797 took 4.5 months...
I totally agree, this whole process needs to change for the better. Some of my friends who applied for Labor in the same week as myself, but working in different companies, will be applying for their citizenship in 2-3 years. I spent 6.5 years waiting for my labor certification. And my greencard...
Never heard of the 9 year cap. After your 6th year, you get yearly extensions if your labor application has been pending for an year. Or a 3 year extension (if requested) if you have an approved I-140.

You should have no problems. You could have used the old passport if there were more than 6 months of vailidity left on it (after your visa appointment date), or you can use your new passport. When filling out the forms, use your new passport number. When you show up at the Consulate show your...
FunLover, thanks for details on your finger printing experience, this will come in handy for a lot of folks.
On another note, is a finger printing appointment expected for all I-485 filers, or are they sent only for those whose priority date is current? I was able to file for my I-140/I-485...
Quite a few cases have been certified in this past week. Please see first few sticky forums under 'Backlog Elimination Centers': http://www.immigrationportal.com/forumdisplay.php?f=235

Congratulations. You are done with the longest and hardest part of the process which apparently had no visibilty. Even though the AOS stage might also take up quite a bit of time, atleast you will be provided some relief in the form of Advance Parole to travel and EAD to work. Good luck again...
Thanks for your reply and the InfoPass suggestion. Receiving the AP in time before I leave will be a blessing - based on my last experience I would prefer not to go down to the US consulate even if my name check clears.
With regards to the last few posts, I too was under the impression that...
Of course you can apply for H1-B extension without I-140 receipts. There is no connection between the two. I am on my 8th year H1-B extension and just filed for I-140 last week. For a 7th + year extentions the important thing is that your labor was in process for atleast the last 365 days...
I wonder what's the best option for someone in my situation? I went down to Mexico for my 8th year H1-B visa stamping which was not stamped the same day. Fortunately I was allowed to re-enter the US by the border immigration officer who also returned my original I-94 back when re-entering. It's...
You are most welcome and hope we all make it through. I just wish everyone had come out of the BEC hole together. Retrogression has set in again which means my ROW EB3 application will now be put aside for quite some time again. But hopefully my Advance Parole will come through soon, which at...
This is Jawad. Fortunately for me we were able to trace the original hard copy of my Certification letter along with the ETA 750 enclosures, so everything worked out well for me. From what I understand, having read elsewhere also, just a screentshot of the online Certification message is...
Thanks. I know I still have a long way to go as I'm certain to get stuck in the name check stage for quite sometime. But atleast I'm through with the Labor Certification eternal wait.
Wow just read your latest posting while typing this reply. Congratulations and hope everything else is ready...
