Some advice about money in the USA for new immigrants

@Britsimon Hey Simon, Great advice! Which thread or post are you referencing in the first post though? Just curious to see the amount of risk people are taking to make the move.

    Daughter aging out issue

If somebody moves to the US and leave their children behind, it's them separating their own family, no the US government! Nobody changed the rules half way through the game. The rules were available to anybody entering the lottery. If they didn't like the rules, they could have walked away...

Just to add to this, one thing you can do to push the background check is to do a walk-in Bio. The earlier you do the Bio the sooner your background check will start. That's the only reason for doing a Bio walk-in really. That and the pleasure of getting one more thing out of the way as soon as...

Mom said it! One of the few things that can revoke your GC and end y our dreams of citizenship is to vote as an LPR. Better stay away from it for another couple of years. You are however entitled to contribute to political campaigns if you really badly want to support your favorite politician...

You did good :) I especially liked your persistence in asking for an assured (more or less) communication channel. I hope more people do this.

Don't even think about it man! Fight it out. To the last breath! Still on F-1, I assume? Well, if enter the job market and experience the infamous "H-1 tyranny," you'll know the true value of having the GC almost handed to you via this DV thing :) Keep up the good fight.

The land of flower and nightingale strikes again! I think there is a way to expedite the background check. I'm not exactly sure, but I think the FO can put a request. I also remember reading that towards the end of the FY, they send automatic expedite requests to the FBI for all pending cases...

For sure. :) But that right is reserved for the regulars. :) A noob can't just come along and start insulting the dude, no matter how mentally-challenged the dude is.

If I were you, I would try the student visa route. It's not impossible to get admitted for a graduate level degree with financial aid. That's how I got to the US and later switched to work visa and ultimately won the DV Lottery.

    An Open Letter To Simon

This is how I see it: People with cleared AP in the coming weeks will only have a chance if some other people doing their interview in August or September are put on AP. So if new people are put on AP their visa will become available for previous AP people that have had their cases cleared recently.

Based on September VB is my CN safe

The pseudo screw-up in May in the status check, may end up having some 2012-esque effect. I wouldn't be surprised if the final DV-2015 cut-off numbers end up higher than DV-2014 by at least about 5%.

September VB - DV14 Last Chapter

When will your medical expire? Usually the visa expiry should already take that into account, but maybe that's what they are referring to.
