I became a United States citizen (after 2 1/2 years as a PR)

Thanks, everyone! DIdn't even realize that I 'posted a reply' in the very post that already answered my question :) So here's another question: If I marry a USC later this year, would it make me eligible to apply for citizenship right away, since my residence is since August 2004? Or do I...

I became a United States citizen (after 2 1/2 years as a PR)

When can I submit application for citizenship?? Hi all, I remember someone posted the time line before, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, my question is, when can I submit/file for my citizenship? I received my GC in August 2005 (Resident since 2004). Would appreciate if anyone of you could...

Members who obtained GC through asylum visited COP

Got my gc (AS6) in August 2005, went to COP that December, for 5 weeks, using NP. Got probably a total of questions when entering POE in SF, only: Where did you go, how long were you there for. Then: Welcome home. I'm going to COP again next month.

Travel to COP after GC w/o NP

I don't understand why people tell their embassies/consulates that they got an asylum from the US government when they renew their passports. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. Come ON people, where is your common sense??? Just tell them you are out of status - it's none of...

Finally, an USCIS opinion about our endless question

Woosterlad, When you applied for NP at your COP's consulate, don't tell them that you are a GC holder - it's really none of their business. Just tell them that you are out of status. Like you said, it's common sense. I feel totally confident visiting my COP once in two years or so...

Citizenship Denied: Please help me !!!

I totally agree w/ Jackdaniel. Also, I'm wondering why he can't appeal, yet is allowed to reapply in 10 months. Would be helpfull to all if Eshaan could let us know what the letter says, exactly.

Citizenship Denied: Please help me !!!

I went home to my homecountry after i got my gc - was just last month. i still truly believe i will not have any problems whatsoever when applying for my citizenship. I really think Eshaan27's case is not that simple. i can't see the U.S. immigration just denied his application with one...

Citizenship Denied: Please help me !!!

eshaan27, Out of my own curiousity. what else did they write on the letter as Reasons for Denial: Loyalty, and that's it? I'd think they need to attached lots of papers with all kinds of reasoning. My friend who was denied for her asylum plea got the denial letter, and attached to it was like...

Can i get visa for home country on RTD?

You can still renew your NP eventhough it's expired 2 years ago. When they asked about your status in the U.S, just tell them you're out of status. they're not gonna do anything about it. that's what i did, although i'm not from India. Oh, you might want to just give your consulate a call...

    Question for Devi Dewata

I didn't have to pay fiscal fee - you're entitled twice a year if you are a resident of a foreign country. This is shown in the US address on your NP. So that's all I showed the tax officer at the airport. They asked for my old NP (just to know if I've met the two-times maximum fiscal free...

    Going back home....

Exactly my point! I studied everything, all the regulations and stuff before I finally decided to renew my NP and travel back home. Good luck, PM. You'll be fine, trust me. And enjoy your trip back home. And don't forget to keep us updated! Devi

    Going back home....

Rtd PM, Well, from my own experience, it definitely makes sense to use your NP, especially if you have one already. I took lots of considerations before renewing mine, hence the last minute renewal - I got mine renewed only 1 day before I travelled. If you are a refugee, and your country...

    Going back home....

National Passport vs. Travel Document PM, I guess the question is, why do you think you need to use the RTD instead of your NP? You can't use your RTD to enter your homecountry, and there is no point of using it to enter the US. So why bother getting one?

    Question for Devi Dewata

You're correct! :) I assumed you meant: the home country airport, correct? If so, no, I didn't show my gc at all. The same thing when I applied for the non-fiscal thing, i just showed them my passport, and that's all. They gave me no hassle whatsoever. That was my first time going back home...

    Going back home....

Question from COP Consulate Asylee 13, Sorry, I'm not from India. Like I said, when they asked me about my status here, my answer was that I was out of status. When I renewed my passport 1.5 months ago, it was already expired for 3 years.

    Going back home....

NP vs. RTD I'm all confused with this whole arguments about not using your NP. The only valid reason for not using your NP is the idea that by renewing your NP, you are reclaiming your citizenship to your home country. Now, that is according to the UN asylum/refugee policy. The US however, has...

    Going back home....

National Passport The other thing I wanted to mention was, I opted to renew my NP instead of getting travel papers with the following considerations: 1. I don't want to go to my homecountry using travel papers - this will raise suspicion for the immigration in my COP. If they found out what...

    Going back home....

Back from Home Country Hi Everyone, This is the first time I posted, although I've followed this forum for quite a while now. I just got back from my month trip to my home country after I got my greencard last August. When it's got to my turn at the Immigration Desk at SF airport, I got...
