This is what my lawyer told me when I wanted to apply my renewal as early as possible. You can apply within 6 months before your current H-1 espires, not before that. Accordingly you should be eligible to apply after Sep'03. hope this helps.

I applied for my 7th year extension in the last week of Jan 01/28/03. looks like it is taking anywhere from 4~5 months.another line to stand in ! ! ! ! :)
