    Ask your employer to withdraw the application. If the H1 is approved, then you are automatically on H1 status and you loose your H4. To get back onto H4, you need to re-apply for H4 status.

    You might want to check into it. From what I know, you cannot enter the country until 10 days before your valid work date. So if you are a fresh H1b, then your earliest start date can be Oct 1, 2006. So the earliest you can enter US is Sept 21, 2006.
