Processing time for green card based on asylum

I see, it’s weird that you filed for a WOM just six months after applying a green card, that’s way too early. If you don’t trust your current lawyer, my advice is talk to another trustworthy lawyer who knows about how to handle the situation. Don’t pay your current lawyer anymore unless you know they can actually help you…
Well, I submitted another application a year later. He's the one who advised me to do that. I wish I could turn back time. Now, what's the status of my case? Is he making fun of me or what? If I hire another lawyer, he'll ask for the same amount. When I ask him, he simply says there's no answer.

My asylum approval was in September 2023. A year later, I applied for a green card in September 2024. Six months later, I filed my first Mandems application, which was rejected. I was told to wait until the year was up, and during this time, I filed a Service Request. It was rejected again. A year later, I filed my second Mandems application in September 2025. As I mentioned before, the Mandems application was rejected in January 2026. When I asked for a refund and for the case to be withdrawn, he got angry and said it was his fee. He took 500 from me to file an appeal, and I haven't received a response yet. I've paid him 5500 in Mandems applications so far.
I wish I could get some of the money back; they asked me for another 500.

That's why I'm seeking advice here.
I think USCIS is going to intentionally delay your case from here on out! Seriously, who files a WOM after just 6 months? People have been waiting for years and only start suing them after 12-14 months of waiting forever! And you went Sueing after 6 months? Plus, service requests probably won't help because speeding up a green card is one of the toughest parts of the immigration process, unless it benefits the US government! If you need to travel, you can ask to speed up your RTD! If you need to show your EAD to your employer, you can expedite that! There's really no way to qualify for speeding up a green card unless it's for the government's benefit or you can sure them after been waiting for 12-14 months, not just 6! That's just crazy!

I hope not, I was just listening to his advice. After filing 6 months, we withdrew the case 10 days later, so it's not considered rejected. He said a year is better. Many people get it after six months. He says the court district where I filed is under bad judgment; that's my bad luck.
I applied after 12 month, and now I've completed 18 month.

Hey off topic question, you think after 16 ish months is it okay to sue them?

Specially these days, don't bother anyway if it bypasses a defined time period by government
GC waiting is 20.5 months the last time i checked, filing Mandamus in 6 months or even a year was a wasted advice with wasted money

Remember, asylum is not a right, its a privilege. We are requesting the government, not demanding

I filed my WOM 17 months after submitting my I-485, when the posted processing time was 16.5 months. However, my attorney chose to withdraw the case after noticing that recent cases had been denied. She then refiled it once my waiting time reached 21 months, at which point the government’s processing time was listed as 20 months.
I am still in the 60days waiting window.

Nobody gets a green card after 6 months, especially when it comes to green cards based on approved asylum! Sure, it happened back in 2022-2023 for a few lucky folks who got their green cards in just a few months but that was just a stroke of temporary luck that didn't stick around for long! It's wild to think anyone would sue the government for a green card after 6 months! After 12 months, yeah, that actually makes sense.

Okay, I just have a question. After the second mandamus, meaning 18 months submitting the application, the lawyer filed an opposition, and 50 days have passed. What will happen? Every time I ask, he says nothing.

Honestly no idea but if i were you i would call him or contact him and ask him to tell me what’s going on and what’s the timeline? You yourself can contact the court and see what’s up! You gotta do something yourself and do not wait forever for that attorney!

The answer to your question is in your court documents. Open a PACER account and get the court files if you don't have them, or get them from your lawyer, and then read what your lawyer filed. There should be a deadline, which is a statutory requirement in any federal case. Usually, it's 60 days, but you'd better check yourself.

As others mentioned, it's really hard to justify why the government should pick your 6-month-old case and put it ahead of those who waited 20+ months. It also creates a bad precedent for the government. Remember, these are all public proceedings, so there is prejudice. If I were you, I would sit tight and see what the government says. If they reject again, just withdraw and wait your normal time. If it goes beyond posted processing and you don't hear anything, then you can argue undue delay. I'm an attorney, but this is not legal advice. Please do your own due diligence.
