To be honest with you, I applied the DV 2012, just a few minutes (about 5) after the website opened, so that's is on the first day, I applied them simultaneously and all the three that won. We didn't take specials photos for DV, what we did was that we had about 3 months old passports (UK format) and I just edited all of them using photoshop to the required dimensions, and that did the trick.
