Question: how exactly they track your "continuous presence"? Example: person who takes care of her sick parents travels often to her home country but resides in the US. Say she never leaves for more than 2 months, and in total stays say 7 months here and 6 months there. She does not work. So...
My son is in 7th grade of junior high school. He never carries his card on him to school or when he rides his bike around the block. At the same time, I remember reading that card should be with the person at all times, or he can get misdemeanor charges and/or get arrested. So he is a little...
Nope - thats not true. If they notice such pattern and determine that you actually live and work in China, they have right to confiscate your green card at the border.
Many people do the same for the same reason. I feel that my wallet is not safe enough for GC given the time and effort needed to restore it. However, from personal experience, if you ARE stopped by ICE or border patrol, your copy is as good as not having card at all. Then who do you carry the...
I totally agree with you on this. At the same time, I think we often idealize America as some form of Graceland and demand (at least in this forum) that things happen in sync with their book definitions. At the same time, while back in our "country of origin" many of us routinely tolerate...
I didn't get it, you guys want them to stop asking any questions at the border just because you now have PR or USC no matter from where you are arriving? I thought the whole point of having the border was to protect you who live here legally from bad guys entering, including those pretending to...
After you got your GC, all you show in the airport is Green Card and your passport. Your status is now that of permanent resindent. You don't need to surrender I-94 when you are leaving the country. (this is what my attorney told me at the time) So if airline is still asking for it, one of your...
So, whats the verdict? No one knows when it is OK to leave your employer? 6 months? (thats what I heard) Anyone spoke with an immigration lawyer about it? Maybe someone who left earlier than 6 months can share their experience at the citizenship interview? Anyone heard about a person who got...
there was no police, all cars were with Department of Homeland Security symbols, so it gotta be ICE. They also had an RV with computer that was able to access their network.

to be specific, the incident I described took place on I-91 south from where it crosses with I-89, so it should be about 120 miles from the border, right in the middle of VT

I don't think it matters for them at the point of entry who you work for if you enter with GC. They might just ask random questions to see if you respond "suspiciously". In fact the only valid question I see is "for how long you where away?" All the rest is just chatting trying to see if you are...
Just wanted to share our experience:
yesterday we were driving in a middle of Vermont and there was a USCIS roadblock on the highway. They stopped all cars and asked if occupants were US citizens. If not one needed to show proof of immigration status. We went skiing and all three of us in the...
same here
My wife's approval notice (welcome letter) has never come. She got her GC at lawyer's address although mine and my son's came in the mail at home. I called USCIS about her notice. They said that if she got her GC the notice is not needed. The guy was almost annoyed: you got your green...
you don't need to surrender I94s
I had the same question when I got my GC two months ago. I asked our lawyers and they said NO, you don't need to surrender I-94 cards. Keep them as your immigration memorabilia.
