    I used GC to travel to Greece. I needed visa though. As to how to apply for Schengen visa, google Greece embassy, and you will find the document lists and application process.

    There's no "conditional resident". The 3 year starts counting when the conditional GC is approved.

    Even for US citizens, passports are required nowadays to go to Canada or Mexico (there may be some slacks cut , but the new policies will be in full effect soon). As a foreigner we have passports in the first place, and it's not much of a hassle to bring passports with us when traveling abroad.
