Background info (skip if you are getting bored)
Hi, I am a second year college international student from south Korea, currently on f-1 visa. I went to high school in the US and I am currently going to college in US as well.
I met my girlfriend since I was in high school and we just recently reached our fourth year anniversary. We are planning to get married this upcoming summer when the semester ends. I know it's too early to get married but it is the only way where I can stay with her.
My parents, who are good people with good intentions, unfortunately does not like my girlfriend since her race isn't Korean. They repeatedly told me to break up with her over years and I refused to. This upcoming summer, my parents think I am coming back to korea and go to the military for 2 years since it's mandatory. My girlfriend said she would wait 2 years for me but I cannot do that to her and it seems unrealistic that it will work since 2 years is a long time. So the only way I can be with her is to choose my girlfriend over my parents, whom I both love dearly. I did some individual research and have approximate amount of money that is required and have little knowledge about this process but I thought it would be best for me to just ask question instead of reading other people's forums.
Sorry for the long intro but here are my questions:
-How much does it exactly cost to go through the entire process? (Including the extra price for the form that I have to fill out in order to work in the U.S, while waiting for my green card)
-I know sometimes they reject some people because they were intending to get a green card through marriage. I had no intention of getting married to a U.S citizen when I first entered U.S. Do you think I have high chance of passing it or failing it?
-Is it recommended to hire someone? Because I have very little money since most of my savings will be used for the payment that I have to pay with the green card form. I cannot afford things to go wrong. If I cannot obtain my greencard, I will be forced to leave the country and join the army, without being able to come back to America
- Can I get a job in the U.S with just f-1 visa legally?
- How long does it usually take for me receive the license that allows me to work after I send all the required documents?
