Hi! I have some questions. I am planning to go to USA next summer and stay to live there. I am from Bosnia. So I read on internet how to get citizenship before 18 but I have 18 now and I will have 19 when I go to US. So,heres situation,I have been born in Bosnia,my parent were citizens of Bosnia. My father moved to US in 2001 and got citizenship around 2006-07. Then divorced in 2007 I think and remarried in 2008,but they divorced again in 2012. I know I could get citizenship if I went there before 18 but my mother did not allow me. So my question is,am I still able to get it via my father who is citizen of US or will that at least help me to get it easier? He told me I can but I wanted to be sure and not build hopes that will not come true. Thanks!

Do not bring parents or family members with you to your interview. The consular officer wants to interview you, not your family. A negative impression is created if you are not prepared to speak on your own behalf. If you are a minor applying for a high school program and need your parents there in case there are questions, for example, about funding, they should wait in the waiting room.

Since you are under 21, your US citizen father can file for you as an Immediate Relative and you'll get a green card in about 6-12 months. But for citizenship you'll have to wait the usual 5 years of having a green card (unless you reduce that wait by marrying a US citizen or joining the military).

Well thats good, all that matters is that I can reside and work in US,but can I travel back to Bosnia for vacation for about 1 month a year if I wanted with green card? Or I have to wait for citizenship? I do want to join military because I want experience to work in police force, but I did not know it can help to get citizenship. Thanks for your help!

Yes, 1 month a year outside the US is definitely OK with a green card. Even 5 months a year is almost always OK.

You don't need military experience to be a police officer; there are police academies that train you to be on the police force. But you will need US citizenship to be a police officer in the US.
