I have offered DV 2014 what next

askmeagain

New Member
Last year I have applied for DV 2014 and I have been selected for further processing. Can you let me know what to do next? I have case number assigned and need to send some additional information as far as I know. I have heard that more people have been selected for DV2014 than actual visa offered for the DV 2014. What is my change to get US Visa and green card?

How high is your number? You will need to follow the directions they have given you now that you have won. What region are you from? All this information is necessary if you need some help on here :)

Congratulations on your selection!

Have you read the instructions? People here would love to help with specific items, but first you need to do your part.

What do you mean by how high is your number??
My case number is like this..
2014AS0000xx0x
( x is a number, so security reason, I have not written that)
I am married and engineer with 12 years of experience in filed of IT
I am MCSE CCNA certified.
What is my chance of getting job in USA?
Furthermore, My plan is to go USA alone and settle myself there and call my family within year or half.
What will be the best way?

Your case number is important to give a rough determination of when your interview may be. So, if it is 23500, you can write on the forum that is is 2014AS000023XXX so forum members can help you with an idea on that. At this stage, no one can tell you how high it is or when you MAY be interviewed without knowing at least a rough estimate of your number.

Now that you have been selected, you are required to send the necessary paperwork requested to Kentucky. Those instructions will be clearly explained to you by them on the selection screen and the procedures you are to follow. After you have sent your documents and you have a rough idea of when you may be interviewed, you can commence getting the final documents that will be needed at interview etc ready (incl police reports, medicals etc as you get close to interview, the date of which you will be notified formally by Kentucky - KCC)

If you have your 12 years of education, you do not need to use your work experience to secure the visa. I suspect your career in IT will also be influenced by which area you ultimately move to in the US. I am sure other IT professionals may help you with that. I recommend doing some research on current IT employment in the various States in advance, as moving to a metro centre would be better served in that field.

Dear All, Thanks for the help. Really this is great forum for DV lottery Help. My Case number is like this
2014AS000002XX6 (My Country DV lottery Quota for 2014 is 6 thousand +, and my number is 2 thousand +)
I checked my status few weeks before, once I was going to apply for 2015, I saw check your status of DV 2014, so I checked with my 2014 Confirmation number and I am lucky to see Case Number with Offer Letter. I called on same day to Kentucky number and gave my case number, they told me follow instruction on the website (that is step 2 and three - send the education check documents and filled form) Which I have not done due to following reason which I want to as here in this forum.

My country most of DV offered people go to consultancy and process through them (sending documents, correspondence, idea etc with some fee) Shall I do the same or do myself ( since I am educated and can handle myself), furthermore, it is not mentioned anywhere in DV official site that the document they need can be sent scan copy or need hard copy? When I consulted some consultancy in my country, each are asking more documents (like my father, mother, wife's father, wife's mother, etc details) which are not mentioned on DV official site?
Up now in my life I have lived and worked almost 4-5 countries more than (12 months) do I need police clearance from all? Some countries I left almost 10 years before and it is very hard to get such document due to political problem there. What is solution in that case? I am married with one kid now. Kid birth was after the DV application and before DV section, what shall I do for my son to include in DV? Since my baby is small, I would like to leave my wife and kid for at least one and half year in my country and I go US and settle myself first and called them later, is it possible? If yes, how shall I proceed?
What will be the cost of over all process and how much money I have to bring USA for first time? Will I have to search job myself in USA after arrival there or government system will find job in my area where ever in US they want? Do I have choice and work to USA anywhere I like? Can I process for job online from now, showing company that I will get my DV visa soon.. what is chances of getting job?

Congratulations and well done for getting the most amount of questions into one post that I have ever seen. Those consultants must really earn their money (are you from Nepal as a wild guess?).

1. Don't use a consultant - there is no advantage if you are able to read the instructions and you can ask questions here.

2. You do not send any documents such as birth certificate (except for the new child as I will explain). You will complete and send two forms for your self and one for each derivative (your wife and child). The rest of your forms will be presented at the interview.

3. You must try and get a police report from each country where it says to do so on the reciprocity tables - which are here http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html
In countries where the record keeping and polical situation is bad there may be some notes on the country page that excuses the police record. Just follow the instructions carefully.

4. For the child you will send a copy of the birth certificate along with a completed 230 form for the child when you send your forms to KCC. Your son will then be included in the DV process and will get a Green Card.

5. You should plan to enter the US as a family and then for your wife and child to return for a while. If you plan for them to be gone more than 12 months you should apply for a permit for them to return - however, if they come for a visit or two within the 12 months that won't be needed.

6. The costs are fairly high. Each applicant (so each one of you) will pay around $300 for the processing, plus other fees for the medical and police certificate fees, and then when you get to the US you will pay around $200 for the Green card itself. So the fees could be around $3000 for the family.

7. During the DV process you need to show that you will be able to support yourself. That can be shown in a number of ways but assuming you have no one in the US to help you then you would need to show that you have around $20,000 available to finance your move. I would guess you would need something like that amount of money to pay for flights, support yourselves and so on.

8. Yes you will have to search for a job yourself and will get no help from the government in doing that .

9. Yes you can live and work anywhere in the US - just be aware that different areas have different cost of living etc.

10. You could look for a job now but unless you are well qualified in a good profession you will get little if any response. Most people have to actually go there and then find a job - and be aware it often takes a while to find something. Your chances of finding work depend on your skills and experience. Generally though new immigrants find themselves doing something below their normal level for a while - which pays the bills until they get work they are happier with.

Firstly, read the instructions carefully - you only send the DS122 and DS230 forms for yourself and Ds230 for your wife to KCC, the others are only necessary for your interview. Send in a DS230 for your newborn son as well along with a copy of his birth certificate.

You need police certificates for all countries you have resided in for 12 months or longer after age 16 - the website has details of who to contact for these. If it is problematic to get certificates from them KCC will be aware of this.

I would strongly advise against using an agency, as people have reported all sorts of problems with these in the past, from wrong information to being extorted for money. There is no reason to use an agency - just follow the instructions carefully, and you can always come ask a question here if there is something that is not clear to you.

It will be a problem for you to leave your family for that long. If you are issued immigrant visas, they will be valid for 6 months (sometimes shorter) - you can all go to activate your green cards within 6 months and then go back home to sort things out, but longer than one year away from the US and you or your family will be deemed to have abandoned residency and lose the green cards.

The cost of the medicals varies by country (we paid around $500 for a family of 4, some places are more expensive, others cheaper, $330 per person for DV interview fee, and $165 per person after receiving visa but before you land. Look up US poverty guidelines to indicate how much money you should be able to show. You can live anywhere in the US you want, but it will be up to you to look for jobs, housing etc - the government does not help with this (other than some general information on their website etc).

You can certainly try look online for work now, but most companies will want proof you have a visa first - remember just because you have been selected doesn't automatically mean you will get a green card.

Snap! Between our answers he should have a clear picture. Good job Susie!

Thanks

What documents do I need to send at KCC for second letter. Hard copy or soft copy. How can I get sample of DS 230 forms to fill it correctly. How many such form do I need to submit( one for each, me, wife and child or more). Do I need any additional document to send at KCC for second letter since my child was not born during the application for DV 2014. Thanks every one for help.

All those questions are answered previously in this thread (and in the online instructions). Read above and if you STILL don't know - then - ask me again
