Bank Statements

Hi, I am one of lucky the winners of DV 2014 and currently residing in Dubai, UAE with my wife and we have a daughter. Do someone know how much fund we need to show in our bank statement? Since my wife has a job and has separate bank account, Can we show both Statements or Should we need to keep the funds in my account (since I am the primary winner) ?

Furthermore, since we are working here in Dubai for 7+ years, is there any way we convince the Embassy that we have certain Indemnity payable from employer company once we leave them. ( Approx. $15K+ which we'll get after resigning)?

Appreciate your Feedback :)

PS: When will the next visa bulletin publish?

Hello Hjkarki,

For a family of 3-4 people you should ideally have not less than $25,000 to show ($30,000 is on the safe side). I would presume that as you are the primary applicant the funds should reflect in your account as it is YOU supporting your family.

In terms of convincing the consular officer on your indemnity payment from your employer, well you can by way of a written affidavit from your employer stating this.

Visa bulletins are normally out by the 9th or 10th of each month so keep a watch for your case number and make sure you prepare all your other documents well in advance. The police certificate and medical should be left until you receive your 2nd NL as they have a validity period attached to them in normal circumstances.

Whereabouts in Dubai do you live? I go there quite frequently every year for work and for short breaks. I almost relocated to Dubai but I felt the USA was a better option for me as I would at least have the security of a Green Card and future citizenship.

Please ask any questions you may have and me and my other forum friends will guide you.

Well, he may not want to tell the employer he is leaving....! I presume the indemnity payment is agreed in a contract somewhere, so should bring that along.

Also search US poverty guidelines as a minimum amount that needs to be shown for a family of your size. As Momo says, best to have more than this.

SusieQQQ I'm nervous lol...the hour is upon me :p

Hi, Momo,

Thanks a lot of your reply, its really helpful for my situation :)

I live in Dubai downtown (Deira) where life is easy and weather is always sunny (sometimes too sunny for my liking), however as an expatriate we dont have many rights and freedom hence it would be much better to live in country like USA where we get more freedom and chance of citizenship.... by the way all the best for your Interview tomorrow :)

Hi Susie, Yes the Indemnity is actually a must as per local labour law, hence the consular officer might be aware of that.

However I will check on the feasibility of written letter from the Employer!

Hey Hjkarki,

You're very welcome. Your reason about Dubai is the same as mine. I have nothing against the UAE but I hate how they treat expatriates particularly Indian/Asian workers and visitors. As you quite correctly said the UAE only has rights for Emiratis and outsiders have no rights.

The only reason I go to Dubai is for business and some shopping. I normally stay at the Fairmont on Sheikh Zayed Road which allows me to get to my meetings and exhibitions right across at the conference centre (I was recently there in April for Gulf Print & Pack) and its near the Dubai Mall and Jumeirah. In the past I used to stay at the Hyatt Regency in Deira but the traffic was too much there.

Thank you for your kind sentiments/wishes on my interview. I hope I will have good news tomorrow. Let me know if you have any more questions and I will be more than happy to assist.

Yes indeed Momo! Dubai is great place for visit, especially shopping and leisure activities, however for long term settlement its not advisable! Actually all the hotels you've mentioned and stayed are great ones, I actually work in hospitality industry (Rotana Chain in Accounts) hence I am quite familiar with them.

What are the chances I am getting same type for jobs in US?

Momo1980, I see you reporting "interview successful" by COB tomorrow! All the best!

Roselyna,

Thank you so much for your wishes. I pray to go through and want to be there to guide all of you on the journey even after the interview and once I am settled in the US God Willing.

God Bless!

Hjkarki, you are right long-term Dubai has no future for us Asians!

With regards to job prospects, have you referred to the O*Net Online job family to ascertain where you stand in terms of Job Zone and scoring?

If you have a high school diploma and evidence of 13 years of elementary and secondary education you'll be fine but if you're going the same route as me (I am presenting my diploma/school leaving certificate) and work experience letter from my parents (as I am in a family owned business) then have both documents ready i.e. work experience evidence and school documents.

You mention that you work in accounts; can you be a bit more specific? I will also look for your Job Zone and score accordingly.

Alright I had a look at O*Net a few minutes ago and came up with the following:

- Credit Analyst - Job Zone 4 with SVP Range 7.0 < 8.0 - qualifies

- Credit Checkers - Job Zone 2 with SVP Range 4.0 < 6.0 - does not qualify

- Credit Authorisers - Job Zone 3 with SVP Range 6.0 < 7.0 - does not qualify

- Financial Managers Branch or Department - Job Zone 4 with SVP Range 7.0 < 8.0 - qualifies

To my understanding I believe you'd fall under Financial Managers Branch or Department but you need to check out O*Net yourself and see where you'd fall under as you'd have a better idea.

Formal education of high school is fine as long as you have gone through elementary and high school and have a diploma or school leaving certificate to show for it.

Thanks again for your effort to check on O*Net, I've had a look at that myself and can see few jobs similar to my field.

Once again all the best for tomorrow! You must be feeling pretty elated and tensed at the same time! :)

Good luck, but you'll be fine!

High school is all you need for DV, and you have experience to help you with the job hunt in the US.

I am bit outdated and inactive in Job hunt business since I've been doing stable job for last 07 Years. Hopefully the jobs are plentiful in US for us. Kinda scared to leave a good job...but then again we have to think about our future as well...:)

Don't stress over it and take it one step at a time. If its any comfort I've kept both the option(s) open of my own business venture or getting a job in the USA depending on which option I find feasible.

Big step for me because I'm self-employed right now and I'm now facing the prospect of a real job for the first time in my life but hey life is all about learning and nothing beats a good challenge with some difficulties built into that challenge. After all don't we all live for the thrill of the challenge? :)
