Winner and wedding scheduled

Hello everyone!

I just find out I'm a "winner" (but with a pretty high case number, EU52XXX, so my chances seem quite low) and the point is that I'm getting married on 31st May and then we will be on our honeymoon for almost a month, coming back end of June. I'm not sure if it's better to wait until then to send the documents (DS-122 and DS-230) after getting married or sending them now, before the event. Because I already can fill the 'Date of marriage' with the correct date, but I don't know if the application will be rejected if they realise I send it before (for example, checking the DHL or FedEx sending date).

Thanks in advance.

If your marriage has been registered then your wife can go through as your dependant. If you've not sent the forms yet then hold up until your marriage done and you have your legal marriage certificate so you can enter the information on your forms.

Don't apply as a single applicant whilst you are married as that it is against the law.

Whatever your chances are, just send the forms in once you have your documentation about your marriage. You have nothing to lose and if your paperwork gets processed then your wife will get a GC too.

My marriage will be registered on 31st May (in 11 days) and, by now, all I have to fill in the forms is that date, no need to send any certificate yet. If I dont send the forms during these days prior to the wedding I won't have time to do it until end of June, when I'm back from my honeymoon. I've read it is better to do it as soon as possible, that's why I don't know what to do.

Because you have such a high number, your case won't be processed until very late next year (August/September). Your 122 and 230 forms won't be processed for many months, so there is no harm in waiting until after the wedding.

Also keep checking the visa bulletins after October 2013 to see how the Case Numbers are being processed. No one can be certain of course, but there are many here (including myself) that think the visa will run out before the highest numbers (such as yours) are reached. That could be wrong though, so keep your fingers crossed.

Good luck with your wedding!

There is no rush, you won't be current until sometime in 2014. Who keeps telling people they have to send forms within a few weeks of results?

Get your ducks in a row before sending the forms.

If you're DV2014 then technically nothing will start for you until August when the visa bulletin shows the start of DV2014 for October so if I were in your place personally I'd put in all the information then send the documents off otherwise it adds extra hassles later.

The subject of sending the forms of as soon as possible is open to debate in my opinion (others may share this view and others may disagree with it).

Technically everyone tries to send their forms as early as possible (I did mine in a week) however it isn't like a queue based system whereby its first come first serve so to speak and it is purely based on the visa bulletin cut-offs.

If you try and "visualise" the KCC, there are hundreds of applications coming through so there must be some form of sorting procedure that happens for each region upon which they'd announce the cut-off numbers based on ranges of forms/numbers received.

If your number is high as you say and you don't expect your interview until mid 2014 or at all for that matter then why worry?

I can understand your anxiety (it is your decision at the end of the day of course and I am merely trying to advise or give an opinion objectively and as a well wisher) but I'd hold out and have all the information on the papers then submit them.

Yes Momo I'm sure you are correct. The USCIS try to encourage early submission of the forms even on the selectee letter. As they receive the forms they can begin to assess how many responses they will get for each rregion and that lets them plan their work and predict the Case Number ranges for the visa bulletins.

A late entry wouldn't throw that system off, they must make allowances for that and work within tolerances.

I am in the same situation and I have doubt about sending the documents before or after we get married. Please tell me what are you going to do and when u will send the documents. I am planning to call KCC and to ask them what is the correct way of sending the documents, so I will get you know. In a mean time, if u have some information please tell me

tweety1630 - ideally you should include your wife on your documents as your dependant. The important aspect here is that you have a legal marriage certificate to present at the interview (and photographs of the civil ceremony just in case).

Once you have the legal marriage certificate you fill in a separate set of forms (same DS-122 and DS-230) for your wife (please forum members correct me if I am mistaken as I am stating from what I have read) as your dependant and send the forms off to the KCC accordingly.

Ideally you should also call the KCC and cross-check with them on this matter and on other posts on the forum as there will undoubtedly be persons who have been in a similar situation as you.

Please note (from what I have read) that the marriages these days are subject to some review or scrutiny by the KCC and respective US embassies for the DV Lottery because of previous "sham" marriages in order to try and obtain a Green Card so be prepared for questions at the interview and ready to present evidence that your marriage is legal and true.

Good Luck!
