"Patronym" issue for DV lottery

Hi Guys,
Well the DV Lottery season is ON and everybody is trying their LUCK in this jack-pot and I am one of those.I have question regarding Russian patronyms...sometimes call the middle name.
Actually my wife has patronym on all her credentials and also on birth certificate.BUT on her international passport she does not have it.So in that case,while applying for DV lottery ofcourse I should follow Passport name(without patronym) BUT if on interview would those two names mismatch and can have problems(both are government issue documents-without any tampering)?

Shall I mention it under "middle name" on the DV Lottery form online? BUT if yes-than this is not her middle name according to her International Passport(as there is no option of middle name; ONLY--name and surname)?

Pls help me out-I shall be very thankful to you.:)
 
Hey Daydreamer!!!

Put her patronym as middle name. If selected you will show birth certificate and other documents that support this. This is how we have put for my wife in several documents for USCIS and also for DV lottery and everything has always been OK. Just try to find and write the correct transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin alphabet because you will have to write it in the same way "forever" if you are selected.

Pryanik777 I have some questions :

1)Have you and your wife attended Interview regarding DV lottery(I could not found on your timeline.)if YES-Than did Visa officer had asked you to clarify regarding Patronym-(If I assume that your wife is from Russia or Ukraine and their International Passport do not have option of patronym or middle name-only just name and surname)

2) I and my wife are from North America and I will claim my wife's country of birth as country of chargeability.When we were immigrated to North America even than we never had (during and after the immigration process) any issue with 'Patronym name'.

So my concern is
1)Should I consider her International passport as her 'main document' NOT her birth certificate and write her name without patronym.(even though on dV lottery 2014 instruction sheets at page 5 the have written that'Enter your name EXACTLY as listed on your passport')

What do you think about that?Your opinion is very important to me.Pryanik,If you dont mind,from which country do you and your wife originally belong?(as we can discuss better if we belong originally from same country.)

Hi Daydreamer,

You are right about the Russian passport in regards of the first and last name being in the Latin or Roman alphabet. The patronymic is not Latinized but it is still annotated in Cyrillic and if you win there will be a question on the form that you have to return to the embassy (in case you live abroad) or USCIS (G-325A in case of AOS) that asks you to write your wife's full name in native language and alphabet.

From our experience (she has been F2, J1, and currently F1 student), we have always included her patronymic as her middle name not only for ID purposes but also SSN and with USCIS paperwork and have never had any issues. Last year I included in the DV lottery online form her patronymic as middle name because it is the closest way we can include her full name. We won the lottery and we are still in the AOS process, our next step is going to be biometrics and then interview I think. We have all documents that support her identity, remember that the patronymic is also stated in her passport in Cyrillic, in her birth certificate, Russian diplomas is she has them, etc. (these documents of course need to be translated into English).

Thanks Pryanik for detail reply.

In our case,as I told you before ,we had no issue with patronym while dealing with Canadian Embassy as we submitted my wifes's international passport(without patronym),her credentials translated in english (with patronym),translated police clearance certificate (with patronym) and all other translated certificates (with patronym).We got the PR visa without any interview.
Because If VO at Canadian embassy would have any concerns they would have put an interview to clear those concerns without issuing any visa.
BUT if, NOW we will add that patronym while applying for dv lottery(which is not there on passport or other Canadian documents) than it can raise questions...
As far as G-325A (biographic information) is concerned(i read that), what do you think to write name with patronym in the column'all other names used'.?
 
On G-325A, we put her name as I said before with patronymic as middle name and so far no problems, if they ask this at the interview we'll show her birth certificate and all other documents that support the existence of this name. Also, a simple comparison of the Cyrillic name on G-325A and the passport would clarify this. We did put "none" on the question of all other names used.
