Hello forum mates
My wife is 11 weeks pregnant with our first child, and as you all know everyone is current in June. I have a lot of concerns about the process and a lot of scenarios in my mind.
In my process application i wrote my wife in the point 31a
Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will accompany you to the United States now.

First thing is first ...., i will not allow the x-ray exam because i will not put my little one in danger.

My concerns are:
If we went to our interview and our visa were approved.
1. Does the airlines allow my wife to travel more than 10 hours trip while she is pregnant ( if her doctor says it's okay to do such a thing ) ?
*If the outcome from previous point No.1 was YES.
- Can we enter the U.S and activate our GC and then went back to our country, so my wife can give birth? (because we have medical insurance here)
and what are the steps to get back with our little one?
- If i did find a job without medical insurance. how much i will pay for the the hospital fees (giving birth operation)?
- If i did find a job with medical insurance. how much i will pay for the the hospital fees (giving birth operation)?
- If i did not find a job when my wife is due. Does the state will take care the hospital fees (giving birth operation)?
- If i did find a job without medical insurance. Does the state will take care the hospital fees (giving birth operation)?
*If the outcome from the previous point No.1 was NO
a. Do I have to stay with my wife because i filled point 31a in our application that we well enter the U.S together?
*If the outcome from the previous point a was YES
- What are the steps to do, to add our little one in our visa after she give birth?
*If the outcome from the previous point a was NO
- What are the steps to do, to bring my wife (after she give birth) and our little one to the U.S where I'm staying?

I am hoping that someone can help me out.
Thanks,

Hi Firas,
I don't have answers to all your questions but will try to answer some of them.
I am also pregnant and went through the entire process....

I was excluded from the X-ray because of being pregnant. It shows on my medical report.
I travelled 3 weeks ago at 26 weeks pregnant. There was no issue when boarding any of my flights although I did get a "fit to fly" certificate from my OB/Gyn a week before.
We have also "activated" our green cards and have come back to Dubai for the delivery of baby.

I did extensive research online on hospitals etc and decided it best to have baby in familiar territory instead. You can go in, apply for medicaid through the hospital once you have received your SSN and you don't have to pay for the delivery but I was wary on the systems and processes. Also, you are looked upon as someone who is sponging off the government without even paying any taxes. Its just not right morally and the medical in US is suffering because so many people do this. If you do get a job with medical benefits, you will not get any form of coverage for someone who is already pregnant as it is considered an existing condition. Many medical insurances have a 9 month to 2 year waiting period before you can fall pregnant. The only advantage I can see with having a baby in the US is that he/she can run for president... rofl... thats what everyone says!!! We will all apply for citizenship in any case after 5 years as a family so it was not a deciding factor for us.

From my understanding, once baby is born, you do not need a visa but will pay for his/her fees at your POE. You will need to get printouts of the documents which states that the LO can travel to US without a visa to show the airlines and be prepared for loads of red tape to board.
I downloaded a doc (can't remember where I found it) but heres an extract:
9 FAM 42.1 N1.1 Child Born After Issuance of Visa to Parent
(CT:VISA-1173; 03-30-2009)
The child born after the issuance of a visa to a parent is not required to have a visa if the child is:
(1) Born subsequent to issuance of an IV to the accompanying parent within the validity of the parent’s immigrant visa and the child is entitled to derivative status; or
(2) Born during the permanent resident mother’s temporary visit abroad provided that (see 9 FAM 42.1 N2):
(a) Admission is within two years of birth; and
(b) Either accompanying parent is applying for readmission upon first return after the birth of the child.

I was the primary winner so I had to enter with my husband and daughter to activate our green cards.

We plan to re-enter in September after baby is born.

Hope this helps you and good luck with whatever you decide to do!

That was very helpful, thank you IceQueen.

Okay from my understanding, you we're 26 weeks when you did travel to US and let's say you have been there for a month to receive the GC & SSN so you took another flight while you were 30 weeks pregnant, right?
I have heard any pregnant woman in her 3rd trimester will feel the same labor symptoms when she is on the air plain because of the high pressure.
My question is : didn't you feel any of this on your both flights?

I was in US for about 15 days in total. So travelled in at 26 weeks and out at over 28 weeks. I have hit 29 weeks this week. We applied for our SSN on 26 March and I received mine 2 days later. My husband got his the following day and my daughters' came the next Monday. I travelled to Orlando from NY - about 2hrs 40 mins flight and back in the second week.

Honestly, I did not feel any labour pains although it was quite uncomfortable since it was a 13 hour flight going and 12 hours coming back. I bought something called compression socks to help with DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Made sure I stayed hydrated throughout the flight. Also made sure I walked a bit almost every hour to help with circulation. I travelled quite a bit in my first pregnancy as well and nothing happened either.

We are still waiting for our green cards to be delivered. My husbands' cousin will then send it via fedex to us.

Thank you again Ice Queen

Your family is getting bigger :) I wish your baby will be healthy.
Yesterday I received my 2nd notification letter and my interview will be in 12-Jun-2012
After I heard your story, mostly we will do like you did, go there and have our SSN and we will go back to have our baby here since we have first class medical. Of course if we receive our visa

One last question did you apply for a permit to travel ?

Shukran for the well wishes.
I asked my OB/Gyn for a "fit to fly" certificate which basically says that I have no complications in pregnancy and that I can fly. None of the airlines even asked me for the certificate but I just kept it in my bag in case they would.
Good luck with your interview.

Thank you Ice Queen, you were very helpful and i am really appreciated for sharing your experience with me.
Thanks,

Hi,

Just to add another perspective of experience for this scenario.

My wife and I were granted our GC while she was pregnant. The X-ray was waived, and this was not a problem at all.

We decided to activate our GC and fly back to our country of residence at the time; if i recall correctly, this was around 25-30 weeks.

The best reason for this decision are:
1) Our medical was covered where we were living.
2) You don't want the stress of migrating, finding a home, a job and adjusting to a new culture during this time.

Having your baby abroad is not a problem, but there is one thing you should keep in mind.

The child needs to accompany you on your FIRST trip back to the US AFTER birth; at which point they process them for the GC right at the POE.
Failure on this front will mean they are no longer eligible for GC at the POE.

Hi Ice_Queen,
I need to ask you a question, I am preparing my documents for my interview and the thing is I called more than one hospital to make an appointment for the medical tests, all the doctors said the same thing which is the x-ray is a must and if you don't want to make an x-ray your wife have to go to the interview without a medical test which may affect a delay in your immigration visa process.
so my question is what did you do with your medical test ?
Thanks in advance.

Firas it doesn't matter how many days she is pregnant, xray is not done on pregnant mothers. I did my medical sometimes last week with my wife who is few 31weeks pregnant and xray was not done on her. She received only the TDI vaccination since we couldn't trace our vaccination cards and the doctor said its safe.
However after the birth of the child she has to do the medicals either after entering or if it will be before your interview.goodluck in your process sir.

Man I am in Jordan, you don't know the doctors here in Jordan they have stubborn minds and they thinks they are always right no matter what, the thing is they don't want to do any type of medical tests on her if she don't want to take an X-ray, every time i explained to them that we will lose the IV if we do not get it before 30-sep-2012 and they simply do not care, they say and i quote "we have a straight forward rules and we have to stick with it every person who wish to do a medical test must have an X-ray and I will not do any type of test if she do not want to take the X-ray"

and the most outrages thing they want me to sign that she will do the X-ray on my responsibility. What a nonsense, the doctor knows that this could harm the baby and he wants me to be the one who is responsible for that !!!!!! if you know this could harm the baby why you insist to do it

I am furious right now and i do not know what to do

Then my 2cents advice is talk to your us embassy there and have them write you a letter exempting your wife who is pregnant from the xray and you can present it to the hospital.

actually I am writing the email right now, I hate those doctors, they are so rude i think their own families hate them.

Thanks dubai-b for your advice i really appreciate it.

I received a call from the embassy today, and they inform me that I have 2 solutions only:-
either my wife take the X-ray with protective shield on her abdominal or if my interview was successful and after I granted the GC I can petition for her to immigrate to U.S and it could take for 3 and half years.

I don't know why all the forum members had the same situation but the x-ray were exempted while I am not

It is a very hard decision to make, Any suggestions ?

Have you tried checking with KCC? this is really absurd on their part!

Another option is to ask your embassy to recheck with other embassies of the USA like Abu Dhabi where Ice queen was excepted or at least quote this fact.

Is the baby expected prior to September? then you could postpone interview till after delivery as last option....

Hi,

This is strange, but it appears each region has its own version of the rules.

I would suggest seeing if you can either postpone the interview.

Or, do your interview (and medical) some place else if possible.

We just went through our interview on 7th which was successful and FYI my wife is pregnant and she didnt get her Xray. It could be a requirement in your part of the world but i would suggest you talk to a doctor and ask him how safe is the protective shield and really let him get down to details of it. Dont leave anything to chance before making your decision. If he says its safe enough, let him have it recorded or signed somewhere for future reference.Goodluck and dont loose focus of what is ahead of you.

Actually my wife is due in 30-Oct and this approach is not doable, I will give it a shot and send KCC email as you say and see what happen next.
thanks Dv2012AFTAZ for your advice.

@ajk I can not neither postpone the interview nor doing the interview in somewhere else ...., thanks though

@dubai-b I will send you a message please check your PM's
