There is something called "extrapolation".... just an example, here in Spain, the media makes regularly polls to see who was watching what and when...we are 45.000.000 people in the country... and they just call to 1000 people from differente locations, ages, and social levels....then they give you percentages with margin errors.....

This is the same...we are just extrapolating with a margin of error..
