Approved OCI in Chicago

Hello,

My OCI is in Chicago consulate over last 9 months. I am in India for last 10 months. Despite my numerous attempts to call / write them, I have no luck getting a reply. Now, I am planning to go to Chicago to pick up my OCI. Can I safely assume that the OCI is still in Chicago? In the past, I've requested them to forward it to India (New Delhi) but have not heard anything from them either.

Any pointers could be greatly helpful.

One additional question:

Would I be illegally staying In India in following case?
- My Entry Visa is expiring on April 30th.
- My OCI is granted but waiting at the Chicago consulate for pick-up.
- I am in India. If I overstayed (beyond May), would I be staying illegal in India or the granted OCI (even though it's not affixed in my passport yet) would make me a legal resident?

I am not a lawyer; but if you overstay, that would be illegal. If you have not collected your OCI in 9 months then quite possibly they will ask you to reapply. You must assume you do not have a valid OCI and leave before your entry visa expires. Do you want to risk being blacklisted and not granted any visa to re-enter India in the future?

There are many people at CGI Houston waiting for nearly 9 months to get OCI approved; you on the other hand, my friend, have sat for 9 months without collecting your approved OCI -- you are truly "cooldude"
 
my case is also slightly similar and am from Chicago :).

Chicago Indian Consulate is stating that they are transferring all uncollected_OCIs to New Delhi on June 1st.

Does anyone know whether these will be marked cancelled or will those be available to pick up at New Delhi?

Of course sanjose, you seem to understand India very well. But pray, what will you do when the officer you try to bribe turns out to honest and blacklists you from receiving an OCI for life? Oh yes! You will find his superior and 'explain it to him' even better!
