Hi,
I am not sure of exact dates that I left the US since becoming a permanent resident 10 years ago. I traveled abroad maybe 4 times for a total of about 40 days. Do I need to be exact on the n-400 form? or I can I give approximate dates?
I searched the forums but could not find a definitive answer, Thanks in advance.

Approximate dates are fine. I cant believe that you searched the forum and didnt fine the answer. i read it repeated like 4 times in one thread or the other. Its better off to say that your too lazy and want a quick answer. Only the people who just make the physical presence and continuous residence by very little margin have the dates as an issue. As you were out of the country for very little time it will be nothing of special interest to the IO.

Thanks solid_traveling for the quick reply and advice. I guess I'm not skilled in the ways of searching:confused:, I just saw posts about people who were outside for a long time.
Thanks again next time I'll search a little longer ;)

It's best to err on the side of caution and specify exact dates. During your interview the IO can cross check against your passport. Whichever country you visited will have an entry stamp for the date when you entered that country. Likewise, another stamp when you re-entered the US.
