i failed to file a return 9 years ago, i took care of federal part but still have not gotten around to file sate return, i think from year 2000.
i know you need tax returns from last 5 years, and i have those. Do i need to go back and take care of state return from year 2000? My state residency is not in question since i have lived in the state for 20 years.
My N400 interview is in Nov of this year.

Thanks for your input

I have a friend who is a professor. He told me he never filed state tax return. He is that kind of person who is too devoted to his research and does not care anything else.
The state would have refunded him a lot of money had he filed his state tax returned. He also told me he simply answered No to those tax related question on N400 and he got his citizenship.

Seriously, do not worry about it. Taxes are such a complicated issue that no one is really going to concern themselves with it except the IRS. If you have not been called by the IRS to do something about it, no one ever will.
