My friend will go out of status soon and he is married to a citizen. He is trying to apply for GC through marriage next year but he has to open a checking account now and wants to open stock brokerage account if possible.

My friend will go out of status soon and he is married to a citizen. He is trying to apply for GC through marriage next year ...

If he is going to be out of status soon, and is already married to a US citizen, why would he wait until next year to apply for the GC? Why not apply right now?

He only has enough money to open a stock brokerage account which will help them pay for AOS. Unfortunately, he will owe Uncle Sam on any money made. I wonder which immigration status this individual is going to use, because these days, everywhere you go to open an account, people want to know your status.

I guess there is some matter he can't/won't apply by now. I don't know.

But the question still remains.

AOS stands for adjustment of status or affidavit of support. Maybe he is trying to hide the money from the wife..........

Given his circumstances, he's very misguided if he thinks it's better to wait until next year. He's also misguided if he's worried that opening a bank or stock account would hurt his chances of obtaining a green card. He's likely to royally screw himself and get deported, with his totally mixed up view of US immigration processes.

He needs to spend time educating himself before doing irreparable damage to his case. One of the first steps in that education is to explain his reason for wanting to wait until next year, so we can either show why that reason is nonsense, or so we can confirm that he has unusual circumstances that would make waiting advisable or necessary.

With all due respect to all the experts here, he is hiding the facts and also you all must know by now that its HIM and not HIS friend.
