Hi,

My wife is going to change name(middle and last) as part of naturalization. We will get a court irder for the same (so anticipate lilttle trouble with the OCI).
However for the surrender certificate , should she apply using her new name or her old name.
The Indian passport is in her old name.

Thank you

I had changed first name and added middle name as part of naturalization. For SC I have used new name and today i received the SC with new name in it from Washington DC. My Indian passport which is canceled now has old name in it.

clt - Did you send in only the SC and the indian passports ? Or was it a part of the OCI package ?
When exactly did you send them to DC consulate and when did you receive them back ?

Why do people change their First name ? Does Naturalization mandate it ? Or it is part of Anglicization of Long names ?

antonc - this is the only chance to change your first name from VeeraVenkataBalaSubramaniam to Venky (think about all the girls that dumped you, when you told them your first name!)

Mine ? They scratched their head 1/4 indian 3/4 Mutt :) My name derivatives exist in nearly all cultures - just like a mutt. But the point well taken about

VeeraVenkataBalaSubramaniam to Venky

I had applied for only SC on July 3rd ( delivered to embassy on 7th because of long weekend ) and got back the SC with canceled passport on July 16th.

man - the processing is entirely random for SC. Today i gave it back in the embassy - Try II. They called me back on thursday - let us see how that goes.
