Hi all,

Just want to share my experience. My apologies for taking that long!!

We arrived (all family attended to the interview!) to the Embassy around 7.30am. At the main gate the invitation letter was requested, and than we went through the metal detectors. By 7.45am a number had been given to us and we were inside waiting to be called. Around 8.20 am we were called to window 14 where all documents were requested one by one and being me first then wife and kids (Passports, Births Certs, Marriage Cert, Police Certs, Education Proof and Evidence of Support)

We were then asked to go to the cashier and paid for the 4 application and asked to go back to the waiting room until our number is called again.

Around 45 min later we were called again to window 15, were we were asked to swear that the information given to this application is authentic and accurate. Then the Officer started with the following questions:

Have you ever been in the State before?
How long is the longest you have stayed?
Have you ever been refused entry to the US?
Same questions for my wife
Where did you go to school?
How long have you been in the UK?
When do you plan going to the US?
Where would you go?
Do you have family in US?
What type of work would you be doing in the US?
Is there work available in your area?
You have provided few document of financial support, what are they?
Bank Statements UK and US (a lot more than poverty guidelines for a family of 4), shares and Mortgage balance. This is a big move for you and your family, have you thought about where would you stay to start with?, do you have any one in the US to help you while you get settled?
Yes, I do have a relative currently in US and will stay with him initially, as a matter of fact; he has given me an Affidavit of Support (I-134).That is all what we need it!!

Then she explained about the brown envelope, X rays and that have to travel before the end of 6 moths.

That’s it!!.

Hope this experience is of any assistance.

I would like to thank everybody that participate on this forum as they information available here has been extremely useful for completing this process successfully!

Good luck

Congratulations, and good luck to you and your family in the states.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your experience! Best of luck in the States!

Would you be so kind to help me get prepared for interview in London?
How did you pay for your visas in embassy? Are there any issues with UK banks if you paying with a credit card (since they are supposed to charge you in USD)? Did you notify your bank before this transaction (if you paid with credit card)? What kind of bank statements did you show them, was it just a balance or few month transactions history?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Asgruber09,

Congratulations, and good luck in US.

Did they ask you about I-134 ? or you gave it to them at the first instance?
Did they ask about any documents for your wife (such as educational cert. ...)?

thanks.

How did you pay for your visas in embassy? Paid by UK credit card (VISA).
Are there any issues with UK banks if you paying with a credit card (since they are supposed to charge you in USD)? No issues you will pay GBP at the exchange of the day. I paid £1920 ($3100)
Did you notify your bank before this transaction (if you paid with credit card)? I did not notify the bank, but made sure that I got enough balance to do this transaction and also brought with me another Credit Card just in case
What kind of bank statements did you show them, was it just a balance or few month transactions history? I took with me the last 12 month balances of my saving account but she only asked me for the last month.

Hope this helps and good luck

Cheers,

AC

USAholic,

Did they ask you about I-134 ? or you gave it to them at the first instance?
The lady collecting the documents initially did not ask for it specifically therefore I did not supply it at the time. However, during the Interview with the Officer , I noted that she was starting to be concerned about having to support two accommodations (worst case scenario) and before she asked, I interrupted her and mentioned that I had the I-134. At that point she was satisfied and the interview was finished.

Did they ask about any documents for your wife (such as educational cert. ...)?
No apart from Birth, Marriage and police Certs even though my wife has achieved High School, BSc and Msc. I had brought them all just in case.

Hope this clarifies your queries.

Cheers,
AC

Thanks for your reply and again Congratulations!

Good luck.

Congrats!

When we have done the interview, we have to go to the US within 6 months. No do I as a winner have to go within 6 months or all of us?
And do I need to move also withing 6 months, or just to activate?

Or do we all need to move within 6 months?

Thanks, this helps me prepare for the interview but also for life as I plan to go ahead and we take the children once I get things arranged (like housing).

jaja5,

You and any other dependants HAVE TO go to US within 6 months to ACTIVATE your green card. YOU as the winner have to go first or together with your dependants. After GC activation which take place in the POE in airport, you can comeback to your homecountry.

Hope this help.

Thanks that helps.

So since I want to go ahead (I am the winner) to prepare, is it best to do a short trip with all dependants and return to my home country so they stay while I go back to prepare?

How long after the activation before I have to really move with all dependents? I bet there are rules for this, anyone know where to find the source of those rules?

Thanks so much!

After GC activation, you and your dependants are green card holder. therefore you are allowed to stay out of US for less than 1 year. If you want to stay out of US for more than 1 year, you have to get re-entry permission.

For more info visit http://www.uscis.gov

Thanks that helps.

I also want to have some kind of plan that works best for all of us, but also for the interview as they do ask what your plans are right.

Once the GC is activated, we can either wait in the US for the cards, or maybe just me so I can start preparing while I wait. On the other hand, there is little you can do without the actual card and SSN and this all takes time as well.

Is my husband (who will have a permanent card first) allowed to travel to the US by himself once we have to card activated (and received the first kind of card) or do I always have to travel with him?

Thanks:)

The first time you need to travel to US together to activate your green cards. Any of you can go to US or come out on its own afterwards.
