Hi all!
Could you please tell me what of the following do they ask you to bring to the inerview for citizenship: "tax return transcripts" ,"tax account transcripts" or "wage and income transcripts".

Is everybody asked to bring these tax documents or only some people?

How and when do they tell you what documents to bring with you?

Do they go through the tax transcripts step by step during the interview or they just take a quick look?

If you have been already through that, could you plese share your experience.
Thank you so much in advance
Best Regards

Were you asked to bring tax transcripts? Did you get a letter from USCIS to bring the tax transcripts or are you just getting them in case you are asked during the interview?
Tax transcripts are asked to validate that you are maintaining your permanent residency status and that you do not owe any taxes. They are also used to prove that you are married to your US Citizen spouse (if applying based on marriage).

There are following ways that you know youneed to bring tax records

(1) Yellow letter tell you so
(2) The document check list that come with interview letter say so.
(3) M476 or N400 instruction documents also have doc check list but they are m=be identical to (2)
(4) Just bring them in case.

Hi.
I have not been asked for the tax transcripts ,because I have not filed N-400 yet.
I still do not know what to do,because I did not pay the ss and med taxes for the last 5 years( I did not know I need to pay them).
Fed and State are fine and I have been filing tax returns on time.
That is why I asked about the tax transcripts. On them you can see that I did not pay ss and medicare, but on the tax return copies it does not say anything about ss and med.
I am wondering if they check and investigate your tax background before the interview.
For 10-20 min interview, somethimes they do not ask for these tax documents and they can just let you pass.(I hope)
If you know more about this issue, please help me.
Best Regards

I would strongly recommend that you contact IRS (via an accountant preferably), and set up a payment plan for the taxes you owe. This payment plan will be sufficient for you to prove your good moral character and get you through the interview. (of course I am not suggesting that you stop making payments after passing the interview :)).
You should not go with the assumption that the IO will not check your tax status.

And if it is SS taxes make sure payments be correctly creditied to right tax years. If you already paid SS tax in 2004 but the miss 2005,
make sure it is credied to 2005. If it is credited to 2004 by mistake, you will not get extra SS credits because it is most likely already maxed out for that year (4 credits each year at most).
