Rescheduling Biometrics appointment in New York

Hi all,

I just got my Biometrics notice for a change of status to permanent resident based on marriage to USC.

However, the appointment is during the time that I am traveling. I have to appear at the USCIS office at Varick St in NYC. I am thinking of rescheduling the Biometrics appointment. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What was the alternate date you were given? I am wondering if this will delay my case significantly.

Thanks for your help!

if you have a document showing that you are traveling or will not be available on that day, you will be able to do your fingerprint. I did it twice but I had an airline ticket.go early in the morning and explain it. good luck. another option is to simply reschedule and you ll have in 14 days. good luck

Hi both,

Thanks for the advice. When I called up the 1-800 number, I was told that the locations does not accept walk-ins. However, I just showed up yesterday, ahead of the scheduled date, and they were very nice about it. The officer was curious why I had come early, and then assumed that it was since I would be traveling. Just did the Biometrics, with minimal questions asked. A very easy experience.

That's what they will almost always say, that's why it's useless to call to ask about walk-ins. On the phone they will say no walk-ins, because the decision to accept a walk-in is made on a day-by-day, moment-to-moment basis based on their discretion and how busy they are that day, and they don't want to say they will do a walk-in on the phone and have people show up and get refused.

When my GC was pending I tried an early walk-in and was refused (which was understandable, as there was a crowd of people in there). So I had to change my plane ticket to be able to show up on the scheduled date.
