Hi,
How long on an average is it taking at NY Consulate to process a PIO card? I have about a month and half before I travel, so just trying to get a estimate.
Thanks in advance!

Average should be 2 weeks to 4 weeks, but sometimes up to 3 months.

thanks

Thank you USGC485. And how long does the Temp VISA processing take? I am going to apply for PIO but just in case I do not receive it how long before the trip should I need to plan for Visit VISA?
thank you for the help.

If you go to the consulate or DC embassy, you can obtain a visitor visa or tourist/entry visa on the same day. (morning around 8 am - submit application form along with passport in person and pay in cash. afternoon around 4 pm, pick up passport that has visa sticker stamp). Note: they don't accept credit card. They accept either cash or cashier check or money order. Cash is better.

Calling or emailing consulate or embassy is useless. They don't pick up the phone most of the time.

Visa activities have been outsourced to TRAVISA for the past couple of years. You can still get a same day / next day visa through them.

The embassies will directly handle only emergency visas. It will be hard to show emergency for a planned trip. I think you can plan to apply for such visa if you do not get PIO 3 biz days before travel, or 5 biz days before travel if mailing.
