I am applying for naturalization and I realized that we changed my wife's license and passport to my last name but we forgot to change her social. When filling out the section in the application about spouse any ideas what would be a better answer? (I'm currently overseas and can't change her last name on social till atleast a week after I sent the application...)

Thanks

It is important what is on Green Card (GC), to be pricise, what is in USCIS system (which is usually the same as one on GC) unless you notified USCIS after getting GC and changed the name in GC.

It is important your underlying documents: the last name in national passport, DL and SSN card are the same as the one in USCIS system (usually the same as on GC).

The good news is that you have time to get them in order before the interview. Hopefully the name in both passport and DL are consistent with the one in USCIS, just need to fix SSN card before interview.

Thanks for your reply, I probably wasn't clear.

MY wife is a US citizen, I'm the gc holder. On the n400 application it asks for my wife's name, so would it make sense putting her maiden name (since they also ask for her SSN and that's whats comes up) and then change it before the interview and tell them, or should I already write whats on her passport and DL?

Thanks

chaimdan...Got it.

In this case, i think you should list her last name which is legally in effect now. Given she started changing the name to your last name in few documents, and i assume you have a legal document (e.g. marriage license, court document, etc) to support that.

This means that for part 8 (Information about Your Marital History) of N-400 application, Wife's last name should be the one, which is currently in effect. Do not use her Maiden name if he has legally adopted your last name (SSN card is irrelevant here and is not main document for this matter.)

Let me add that if your GC was via your current US citizen wife, I think it is a positive sign that she has taken your last name as indicates a good family accord/ties.
