RTD at no fee after I-485 approval

Hello everyone,

I've applied for the RTD (I-131) after my I-485 got approved (applied after July 30th 2007), but unfortunately my application got sent back saying I didn't pay the fee.

It is my understanding that I don't need to pay the fee for the I-131 if I filed and paid for the I-485. Is that correct? Does that apply even after the I-485 was approved?

I think....

As far as I know the law say that once you apply for green card I 485 you don't need to pay any fee for the establishment of an advance parole not for the RTD wich stands for Refufee Travel Document.
May other members of this forum will provide you with more details.

Scully51, thank you for your response as well. I actually read those instructions before, and I believe it is saying that I don't need to pay the fee if I applied for the I-485 after July 30th 2007.

I called them up and asked about it, but they just read the instructions back to me ;-)
 
I sent my application without a fee and didn't encounter any issues. However, I did enclose a cover letter explaining under what rules i was seeking the benefit. Not sure if you included something similar to that.

Did you send your application while your I-485 was pending or after?
 
I actually sent them concurrently.

did you send a copy of the receipt you got when you filed your I-485 that confims you paid the fee for your status adjustment?
 
i got same problem here i sent I 131 for RTD i got right back i sent everything approval I 797c Notice and copy of temporary green card and copy expire 2004 RTD....
ya they ask me to send back with $385 included Bio fees,,,,
the way they said no fees for who applied I 485 or pending or approved some time after 2007 no need fees but guys today i sent back with $385 Check to NBC ....

I did actually. I took your advice and attached a cover letter explaining the situation to them. Thanks a lot Scully!

Just a quick update:

It appears you can only get your free RTD while the I-485 is still pending, at least that's the way it worked out for me!
