Applying 87 days before 405 approval date.

We are intending to apply N400-87 days before 485 approval date.We are planning our further programs so we need to apply as early as possible.
(GC date is 10 days earlier).
What CIS will consider which date --
our signature- date or their mail receipt date for 90 days?
Whether any risk/possibilty that CIS may err in calculation and send back.?
Any opinions / experiences please.
(In San jose tracking thread some member posted some rejection due to early submission).
 
I would recommend 85 days for extra peace of mind. I'm confused about the 485 approved date and GC date, you say the GC shows a different date, and the date is even earlier than 485 approved date? I know that USCIS prints incorrect dates on some green cards, rule of thumb is to use the I-485 approved date. Anyway, I would count 85 days before your 5 year anniversary of being a permanent resident. 87 would also be fine if you want to trade a couple of days of faster processing against the extra peace of mind. I wouldn't sign/date the application earlier than that, so sign/date and mail no earlier than the 85 or 87 days and you should be fine.

Yes ,Our residence since date on GCard is about 10 days earlier than 485 approval notice date

That's strange. Does the GC date match with any of your dates such as I-130 approval or interview date? They may have switched them by accident.

It is not matching any dates as 140 was approved 6 months before the 485 approval.
 
In this case, to be safe I would go with the latter date, i.e. the I-485. Not just because it is the latter date, but because the approval of I-485 is the date you become a permanent resident. By the way, how do you know you are reading the correct I-485 date, do you still have a copy of the approval notice. The only other way of being "sure" would be to request your A-file, but that's going to take months, so I think it is better to go with your I-485 date and count 85 days backwards.

They are supposed to look at the date when they receive it in the mail, but some have been rejected based on the signature date being too early even though the mail receipt date was within the 90 day limit. Others have been rejected because the postmark date was before 90 days even though it arrived at USCIS within the 90 days. So it's best to make sure the signature date and the postmark date are both after the 90 day cutoff, preferably 85-88 days to protect yourself from their miscalculation.
