Hey Al, Konig et al,
I was going to ignore this thread, but last night sitting out on my swing seat on the patio, loved one by my side and faithful dog at my feet. Sipping a small Courvoisier, I suddenly realized the sadness in this attack on my "smelling trees" statement. I was looking up at a cloudless black sky with more stars than could be counted in one night, a pleasant 67 deg and a wisp of a breeze from the East.
My poor little City dwellers. You get to smell nothing except car exhausts. To smell a tree, indeed you would have to go up to it and sniff.
Out here in this slice of Heaven, I have probably 2000 Juniper trees and a like number of Pinion Pines. Sitting out there at around 8:30pm, I could smell the trees, the fragrant scent of Juniper berries mixed with the slightly stronger smell of the pines and carried to me by that breeze.
You people on the other hand would have to sniff a tree and to see a small forest like my backyard you only have TV with no smell available.
Guess who is laughing now?
