Hey Gurus

I have these two final questions as i am holding my documents and ready to got mail them.

1. For the N-400 fee : single money order ($675) or two ($595) and ($80) ?

2. I have a daughter with my fiance (they both live oversees). I know I need to provide proof of financial support. She sent me a letter but I haven't received it yet. can I submit the application package and later provide evidence (letter) during the interview? or would that cause a delay in the processing?

Single money order or check is fine.

The N-400 instructions in the Document Checklist suggest that you only need to provide child support documentation if a court or government order directed you to provide it. The following is cut and paste from the instructions:

If you have a dependent spouse or children who do not live with you, send:

Any court or government order to provide financial support; and

Evidence of your financial support (including evidence that you have complied with any court or government order), such as:

Cancelled checks,
Money and receipts,
A court or agency printout of child support payments,
Evidence of wage garnishments,
A letter from the parent or guardian who cares for your children.

If a court or government entity ordered you to pay financial support for your child then I think you have to provide a copy of that and then also the letter from your fiance indicating that you have provided financial support.

In your case, you may just be better off waiting to receive your letter from your fiance before filing the N-400.

I have seen a few interview experiences where candidates provided proof of support during the interview. I am not sure however if they had provided copies with the application prior.
 
also there are no government/ court order compelling me make such support. Is it therefore a necessity for me to send it?
 
I got the answer to my questions. I realized I just needed to search the forum for child support issues. Thanks again for your reply newrunner
 
I have the same case like you, I got yellow letter and said I need to bring child support evidence with me when I go to interview.. Since I don't have a court order and my child lives out of country, the IO only asked me to provide any evidence that I have sent mony to my wife (for example: like western union receipt...)

Given the experience of Kyle, who appears to have received a yellow RFE letter, you may be better off waiting for your finance's letter so you can include it with your N-400 application. From Kyle's experience, it definitely looks like they check your application to see what supporting documentation is provided based on how questions were answered. On the other hand, if it is too long or too uncertain to know when the letter will arrive, you can file the N-400 and then accept that you will receive an RFE letter. Since they send the IL after the RFE, I could see some delay in processing, but probably not a lot.

I'd take kyle's experience to indicate that there is no need to wait to file the N-400 and evidence of support can be provided at interview.

I completely agree.

The tradeoff is the extra step in processing for USCIS to send out the RFE letter. It may matter to formerf1 or it may not. Whether you wait now for the fiance letter or wait later for the IL after the RFE letter, I think there is potentially a small delay in receiving the IL.
 
thanks for the replies. Kyle said the IO asked him for the evidence during the interview. Also I thought everyone received that generic letter before the interview, but i might be wrong.
