Question: Informing Employer about GC approval

My AOS interview was approved yesterday and IO stamped my passport with the I-551 stamp (work & travel) valid for 1 year.

I entered the US on H1-B visa and my visa is valid until the end of 09. My question is should I inform my employer about my status change now or wait until I have plastic card in my hand. Technically my status changed to permanent resident starting from yesterday (02/05/09), right?

If I do inform my employer now, they would ask for copy of GC. Which in my case is just a passport stamp at this moment. Also, I don't have my EAD card as IO took that back after stamping my passport.

So I am kind of confused; any help is appreciated.

No need to rush to update the employer, unless your existing I-9 has expired (which I see it hasn't, as you said your H1B is valid until the end of this year). You can wait until you get the card.

But if you want to update them now, the I-551 stamp in the passport is valid for I-9 purposes.

Thanks Jackolantern! I will wait until I get the card to inform my employer. I hope there is no difference in benefits for a PR employee and H1b employee. I am pretty sure there is none, just making sure.
