If you become current, would you call TSC,

nothing will happen if you call TSC if you become current..they cant help you with anything unless you are 60 days past the processing time.

Processing time - do you mean "processing time", or the date that I became current? Because "processing times" wise I am 5 years behind, yet I only became current 5 days ago. What shall I do?

Processing time means = Texas processing date... when u go to the Service Center's website of USCIS you will find a date under your category. if it says June 29th )for example), that means they are processing applications with current priority dates received before June 29th. So it is important to know when your application was received by your service center also and not just your priority date. If your receipt date is before June 29th based on the example scenario then count 60days from that date before you can make a follow up. But i suggest to make a follow up even after 30days only as i was told by their rep it is 30days.

Both my PD and RD are from 2002...that's way over 60 days. The question is - do I sit back and wait, and hope to get approved like many were in the last month, or is it better to be proactive and call them because I have been current for the past 5 days?

You shold have called them long time ago. Cant believe youve waited this long. Dont you have a lawyer to handle all that??? Youve wasted so many chances and time.

I called them today

Before I could begin to explain they said dont call this number again, call standard customer service. This is my second call to them ever first was last month since I was current, second call was today since I am current once again.

They basically are the rulers they work if they want to or dont if they do not like to. They are not answerable to anyone. In the name of security you are getting screwed.
