Travel while AP is pending

Hi Guys,

I have an AP valid till 8/2008 (received this approval after waiting for 5 months). Now I need to travel overseas in 2/2008 and return 5/2008. If I renew my AP after I return in 5/2008, I might not be able to receive the approval before 8/2008. So I have decided to renew my AP now (indicating on I-131 that I need AP after 8/2008). Are there any problems to do this way?
 
I don't know that you can actually tell USCIS when to issue your AP, or to assign to it a future validity date other than the date it is approved. Are you planning another urgent trip in August? I assume this is all through Nebraska... because Texas applications for AP are relatively fast.

Yes, I will have to travel again on 8/2008 and return on 10/2008. On the top of 2nd page of I-131, there is a "Date of Intented Departure", I will put 8/2008.
 
Even if you put 8-08, that doesn't mean the validity date of the I-131 will begin in August. It will begin whenever they get to your I-131 and approve it. If you apply now, you'll probably get your new one valid from 5/08 to 5/09 (or maybe as soon as 3/08 to 3/09 if you apply in Texas). This will still be okay for your purposes, but just don't expect to apply now and get a new AP in April or May that begins validity in August.

Emergency advanced parole is the other option - please read this thread.
 
You can't apply for AP renewal no earlier than 120 days before expiration of you current AP, so you can't apply now if you AP expires in 8/2008 (see www.uscis.gov).
