Hi,
I am applying GC for my parents. A RFE was issues recently asking for a non availability letter from the governmental authority stating that the marriage certificate does not exist. My parents are in US so cannot even register the marriage at this stage.
1. We have provided 2 affidavits stating the same from 2 relatives stating that the marriage occured as that specified date.
2. The wedding card as proof
My parents were married in Chennai (Madras) in 1962. The marriage was never registered. I am having trouble getting a letter from the registrars office of birth and death. They are saying they do not have any formats or issue letters of this sort.
My Questions:
1. Has anyone come across this type of situation and if so how was it handled. I need some guidance on who to approach and the format of the letter.
2. The RFE has to be responded by March 7th,2008. Can we ask for an extension for the RFE so that i can travel to india and get the letter.
Someone please let me know what can be done to get the required documents to respond to the RFE.
