Birth certificate question

I would like to know is birth certificate important for Citizenship interview. I have my birth certificate from India and it has my name as my father name first letter as initial and my name (like Initial. My name Example A.Robert) Here when I applied for my GC and entire process my name is stated by expanding my initial with my full father name and my name as first name and last name etc and that continued as my legal name here including my passport. (example. First name : Adam Last name as Robert. This name is there in my passport, SSN, GC, DMV records, IRS etc)

Will this cause an issue during citizenship interview?
 
Usually BC is not required or asked for in most cases during citizenship interview though most people carry it. I had a affidavit which showed correct names. But I will not worry about it.
 
Thank you!. Even I have affidavit with my correct name. I used this affidavit during my Green card processing.
 
This is based on my exp at Atlanta DO.

They already have the BC in your file so they may not ask it but they use it as the basis for the Nat cert. In my case, my BC only had my first name in child name column (No middle name) as in my state in India, father's name becomes child's middle name by default and is not needed to be written. Based on that, IO gave me Nat cert with no middle name though my GC, passport,SSN,driver license, you name it document is with full first-middle-last name. So BC was the most imp document in my interview.

In my wife's case, her BC had spelling mistake (one alphabet missing) We have court affidavit correcting that mistake. Her IO would not budge. IO told that either she will give Nat cert based on wrongly spelled BC or she can opt for name change via judicial oath during citizenship. My wife opted for it and now, we are waiting for oath ceremony for over 9 months. So in her case as well, BC screwed it up for us.

Again, this is my exp in Atlanta DO, yours could be different and I wish you good luck for that.
 
Why it is different procedure in different DO's. Looks like only Atlanta is asking for BC and not the other DO's. Also in your case it delay the process of getting citizenship.

Who ever is the current citizen please give your suggestions also.

I have the exact same problem. First initial followed by my last name (like A. P-----) Is there a way to correct this on the Indian Birth Cert or get a certificate from a court attesting to the full correct name?

Does this mean that the Nat Cert will carry the name A. P--- rather than the full name?

Your Nat Certificate will carry the name you provided in your N-400 application which should match the name on your green card.
 
This is my exp with Atlanta DO. They have the copy of your BC that you submitted with GC. They do not ask you for it during interview. They go by what it says in BC, no matter what GC, passport or any other document says. In my wife's case, even court affidavit showing correct name did not matter to IO.

Name they ask you to write infront of them on a paper (and on the side of photo) is name that appears on Nat Cert. This may not be same as what is in N-400 app. They don't have to go by what you provided them in N-400 app.

Hopefully you will have different and better experience with your DO and IO.
 
the name on naturalization cert will be exactly as in your N-400 application. The officer at interview will ask you to review your name and say it will appear as is in the certificate. Make sure you check few times. There was no question of BC asked anytime during my interview. My BC name is different from Green card, N400 app etc. My affidavit states the correct name.
 
I did not read N400Atl post fully before reading. Looks like each Do has theor own rules. My DO and my experience was based in San Francisco, whom I found very reasonable and very friendly in the whole process.
 
c'mon you guys...

... why wouldn't you just take those docs you are really and clearly asked for!?

...have been on and have read topics like this "for ever" and... my reasoning and line of thinking if you will, has been always the same - read carefully what notice says and do exactly what you are asked for!
and that's exactly what i'm going to do for my interview as well: nothing more and nothing less!

if u want to do that way, do it that way.

but some want to be a bit more careful, and be 200% prepared rather than just 100% prepared. In my opinion, its good to be 200% prepared with these sort of things, so that they will not cite some silly reason, and put you behind the queue with "we need more info to make a decision".

Upto each person, the risk they are willing to take and consequences.
 
we can go miles with this...

... "what if" 200% is not good enough either :o
