Hello everyone,
I finally received my Green Card after 4,5 years of waiting.I am extremelly happy and I guess the good news do attract other positive things to your life As I received very good job offer in European country. I don't want to miss the opportunity of going and working there. My question is if I can keep my status, I don't want to lose a chance of getting american citizenship. I don't have any citizenship right now, my COP passport has ben expired and there is no way I could get a renewal. The theory is pretty clear to me , I have to obtain the Reentry permit. Who knows how does it work in reality?

To preserve your PR status you should file N-470 form. However one of the requirements is at least one year of residence after your Green Card was approved.

Minsk,

Does that mean that if I apply for the N-470 at least one year after fulfilling my residency requirements and then work abroad, that I can still apply for naturalization five years after receiving my greencard?

Specifically, I received my GC backdated to March 06. If I move abroard in March 08 or 09, can I still appy for naturalization in March 2011?

Yes you can.

Hmmm... Any suggestions? I really love the job offer! But living without citizenship is also not much fun.

I would stay in US. There are plenty of opportunities in this country. Also keep in mind that once you lost your residence it will be practically almost impossible to renew it.

Unfortunately, USA will never offer me something like European company. Would be the solution then living for 6 months here and there? Thank you again.

Hi Minsk,

Sorry seems to hijack this thread. What if the company he works in Europe is selling US made products, would that change for the good?

Is it based in Europe? If so, I don't think he will qualify for preservation of status. The company has to be based in U.S.
