the social security may take up to 6 weeks because of cross checking your status with USCIS. as for the greencard itself, they say it could take up to 6 month but they send it within the first couple of month.

Not to be dumb or anything but did you apply for SSN? If you did, you will get it as soon as SSA can verify your information from USCIS. This could take as little as two weeks or as long as few months.

Hi Kumar

I am also a Sri Lankan. We got here in August. The best thing for you is to go to Social Security Admin office near you, an check with them whether thay have allocated numbers for you and your familiy. They did not allocate one for my family for three weeks finally we had to get it done after visiting the office. As for green Card it should arrive with in next week or so if you have not got it by now. The thing is all these will fall in to place after about a month. Till then you have to keep cool, fustrating but worth the wait. That is the system here, we cannot hurry things up even if we want to(by calling or other means). It took me till last month to get a credit card. It will take about a month or so for credit agencies to get your SSN numbers, then only you would be able to proceed and get a CC. So during your wait you can find other things out. It is vital that you get a credit card and use it, that is the only way you can improve your credit score and look for credit. All the best and Welcome. Good to hear from another Sri Lankan.
