Hi Guys, just to get an idea on where TSC is working, some random numbers were input on case search online...I am not sure how these random numbers are generated, but if
(i) SRC is for Mesquite TX
(ii)07 is for year 2007
(iii)205th day is July 31st in 2007
(iv)try the rest 5 digit for yourself (I am not sure how these numbers are generated)


I kind of get these results...
(A)Receipt Number: SRC07211xxxxx

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Case received and pending.

The above case(B) tells me the second pair of 3 digits is not the number of days of the year. As we have not hit the 221st day of the year 2007 as of today.
However, one can use the USCIS system for testing (please QA gurus..dont break their system).

The last 5 digts is a sequence number, which is incremented after being assigned to a case. This is necessary, so that cases entered on the same day in the same service center, were assigned different numbers. Obviously, this number rolls back to '00000' when incremented on '99999'.

That's my understqanding - others please add here.
 
I personally don't believe the 3rd set nos is the # of days of the year. I had some way too much or too less #s in my set of application like I140, 485, 131 and 765.
 
SRC 07 243 xxxxx

SRC is the code for the Service Center your application was filed.
07 is the year the application was filed
243 is the working day of the fiscal year your application was filed (243 is approximately May 31)
xxxx is the application number on the day it was filed

Fiscal year starts from 10/1/06 to 9/30/07

hard to buy the last five digits....from some random check

However, for the last 5 digits, I am trying to find a trend.if possible.

Here I checked few numbers again.
My search with 49001 on the last 5 digits...come no result.
However the search with 5 digits starting 50001..shows results and at least a notice has been sent on that application (maybe a data entry from the pile). The number goes valid upto 669 from 001, shows to me 670 applications were entered into the system in 1 day on 246th business day, provided the 3 digits carry the 246th working day in year 2007.

on day 245, there were 5007 cases entered into the system, (49999 does not result a search, and 55007 results the last search.)

oddly enough...many cases are rejected..due to improper filing....
 
Yes there maybe missing numbers, it is possible that the 5 digit sequence number is shared by different processing centers. So if it is missing in Nebraska Service Center it maybe appear in Texas Service Center.
 
I do not think that USCIS guarantees that the last 5 digitst will always be in order. Their intention is just to create a unique number on any given day.

There will be "lost" sequence numbers.
The sequence generator could be used by other applications that are not visible via the online status checker.

So, looking at the greatest sequence number on a particular day does not tell us the number of applications they received on a particular day.

But yeah... it will give an approximate idea as to where they are in their data entry if they stick to what they professed i.e. that they will enter applications in the order they are received and that they will use the postmark on the mailed package for the receipt date.

This is an example of "analysis paralysis". Application numbers are chosen at random depending on availability. The explanation is not my guess but is based on discovery working papers of the USCIS.
 
I-485 Rejected on August 16, 2007 - Thursday

I am sorry for this person whose I-485 is rejected on August 16, 2007. However, it is my understanding that the application can be refiled along with whatever is missing even if the dates are not current after August 17, 2007. It is purely a guess and some experience.

I do not want to give out the number, but here is what the message said, when I keyed in a random number:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Case Rejected

On August 16, 2007, we determined that this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was not properly filed, rejected it, and mailed it back to you with all supporting materials along with a notice describing the reasons the case was rejected. The notice will also describe what will need to be done to properly submit the case.
